Adams School Condo Association (2016)
The Adams School Condominiums were developed on a former school site in a diverse, vibrant neighborhood in Portland, Maine. We were hired by the Adams School Condo Association for a meeting to help the condo owners establish shared values and interaction guidelines.
American Institute of Steel Construction (2016)
The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) is a technical institute and trade association serving the structural steel design community and construction industry in the United States. We were hired to deliver an interactive leadership talk and an Endnote speech for AISC’s 2016 Future Leaders Ideas Lab in Philadelphia. The Future Leaders Ideas Lab is a leadership development and networking opportunity for fabricators who have either recently moved into or anticipate moving into a senior management position during the next few years.
Brunswick School Department (2015)
The Brunswick, Maine School Department hired us to facilitate a series of community input meetings and prepare a draft strategic plan to help chart the future of the Brunswick schools.
Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust (2016)
The Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust protects 1,100 acres of properties with ecological, agricultural and aesthetic importance in Brunswick and Topsham. We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning retreat to affirm mission and vision and establish strategic direction going forward. We also provided a Complete Report of the meeting.
Casco Bay CAN (2016)
The Casco Bay Create Awareness Now (CAN) Coalition is a group of local individuals, schools, law enforcement agencies, organizations, and businesses who work together to prevent and reduce youth substance abuse in Cumberland, Falmouth, Freeport, North Yarmouth, Pownal and Yarmouth. We were hired to help plan and facilitate a meeting to discuss Casco Bay CAN’s sustainability plans for the short-term and the long-term.
Casco Bay Lines (2016)
Casco Bay Island Transit District (CBITD, also known as Casco Bay Lines) operates year-round passenger, vehicle, and freight service to six Casco Bay islands. Like last year, we were hired to facilitate a strategic planning meeting among the members of the CBITD Board. We also facilitated a follow-up meeting to discuss a new vessel selection process. We prepared Complete Reports of both meetings.
Central Western Maine Workforce Investment Board (2016)
The Central Western Maine Workforce Investment Board coordinates workforce development services for job seekers and employers. We were hired to help plan and facilitate a Financial Freedom Forum – an opportunity for Maine service providers to share ideas about improving financial capabilities and self sufficiency among their clients, many of whom are low income and/or have disabilities.
Chebeague Island Council (2016)
The Chebeague Island Council is a volunteer organization started in the 1940s on this Casco Bay Island with roughly 400 residents. The Council addresses a wide variety of community needs such as health and wellness, fuel assistance, hospice care, parades and festivals, and fundraising for local charitable causes. We were hired to facilitate a strategic direction workshop among members of the board, to help the Council take stock of its activities and plan for the future.
CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange) (2016)
For the ninth year in a row, CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange) has hired us to facilitate a multi-day retreat among regional directors from all over the country. In these retreats we work through issues that have emerged over the past year, make important decisions about the future, and have fun doing creative team-building exercises.
CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange) (Winter 2016)
The Council on International Educational Exchange offers a Global High School program to facilitate international exchange among young people. Craig was hired to plan and facilitate a workshop on innovation for the High School staff at a CIEE retreat in Kona, Hawaii.
Co-Occurring Collaborative Serving Maine (CCSME) (2016)
Co-Occurring Collaborative Serving Maine (CCSME) serves those affected by co-occurring conditions by advocating for best practices, encouraging professional development, maximizing collaboration, and facilitating integrated health and behavioral health services. We were hired to plan and facilitate a strategic planning board retreat to affirm strategic direction and identify specific strategies for board and member development.
Colby College Office of Communications (2016)
Colby College is a liberal arts college serving 2000 undergraduates in Waterville, Maine. We were hired to plan and facilitate a staff retreat for the Office of Communications to strengthen teamwork and develop guiding principles and specific strategies to be more efficient and effective.
Cumberland County (2016)
Cumberland County, Maine is home to 28 cities and towns and roughly 280,000 people. The county government manages a court and justice system, emergency management services, and partners with others to support economic development and regional health and water quality. We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning retreat for County Commissioners and Senior Staff to take stock of recent successes and challenges and make plans for the near-term future. We also prepared a complete report of the retreat.
Cumberland County Clean Water Collaboration (2016-2017)
Building on our earlier work with the Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District, we facilitated several meetings of the Design Team of the new Cumberland County Clean Water Collaboration, a coalition of municipal managers and stormwater management professionals working together on municipal and regional stormwater projects. In these meetings we discussed objectives and tasks for the new Collaboration.
Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District (2016)
In collaboration with Cumberland County and the Greater Portland Council of Governments, the Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District hosted a meeting among municipal managers and stormwater management professionals to kick off the Cumberland County Clean Water Collaboration and identify regional priorities for clean water projects. We were hired to help plan and facilitate the meeting.
Downeast Lakes Land Trust (2016)
The Downeast Lakes Land Trust protects lakeshores, improves fish and wildlife habitats, provides public recreation opportunities, offers educational programs, and supports jobs in the forest and on the water in eastern Maine. We facilitated a retreat of board members to develop a plan for the next five years.
Dragon Cement (2010-2023)
To foster good relations and communications with their neighbors, Dragon Cement of Thomaston hires me to facilitate regular meetings of their Community Advisory Panel made up of local government, nonprofit, and business leaders.
DuPont (formerly FMC) manufactures carrageenan in Rockland, Maine. As part of its Responsible Care initiative, the company retained us to facilitate a community advisory panel. The group met every two months and served as a forum for learning and dialogue between plant managers and community leaders.
Falmouth Town Council (2016)
Falmouth is a southern coastal Maine community of about 11,000 people. We were hired to plan and facilitate the annual retreat of the Falmouth Town Council for the fifth year in a row. During these annual retreats Council members discuss priorities for the year, and build relationships and enthusiasm for the work ahead.
Gardiner City Council (2009-2023)
As they have in the past, the Gardiner City Council hired us to facilitate a workshop to take stock of recent accomplishments, update Council interaction guidelines, and establish Council goals for the coming year. Gardiner is a city of about 6,000 on the banks of the Kennebec River in Maine.
Greater Portland Council of Governments (GPCOG) (2014-2016)
The Greater Portland Council of Governments (GPCOG) is a nonprofit organization that assists with cooperative services such as bulk purchasing, transportation planning, data, mapping, and economic and community development. GPCOG’s members include 26 municipalities from Casco Bay to western Cumberland County, along with the County itself and other affiliate organizations. We were hired to help gather stakeholder input and facilitate a series of meetings to develop a five-year strategic plan for GPCOG.
Greater Portland Transit District METRO (2016)
The Greater Portland Transit District METRO provides bus service to over a million riders every year in Portland, Westbrook, Falmouth, and South Portland. As in the past, we were hired to plan and facilitate a strategic planning meeting of the METRO Board.
High Value Healthcare Collaborative (2016)
The High Value Healthcare Collaborative (HVHC) is a provider learning network committed to improving health care value through data and collaboration. We were hired to help improve effectiveness and efficiency of the stakeholder meetings led by the HVHC Program Management Office Coordinators and Senior Leaders, including a full-day facilitation training and Craig’s observations of actual stakeholder meetings. As a result of this work, the group will establish and implement Standard Operating Procedures for high value meetings.
International Policy Governance Association (2016)
The International Policy Governance Association (IPGA) is a worldwide nonprofit organization promoting owner-accountable effective governance practices. Craig partnered with IPGA to deliver a webinar on Getting to One Voice.
Lewiston Public Schools (2016)
The Lewiston Public Schools serve nearly 5,000 students in nine community schools in Maine’s second-largest city. We were hired to facilitate a dynamic, interactive public forum for parents and community members to understand the schools’ near-term plans and give input on proposed vision and goal statements. We also provided a Complete Report.
Maine Board of Dental Practice (2016)
The Maine Board of Dental Practice licenses and monitors compliance among Maine’s dentists, hygienists, and related professions. We were hired to plan and facilitate a board workshop to identify next steps and action plans in moving the goals of the Board forward. We also prepared a complete report.
Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services (2016-2017)
The Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services advocates for Maine’s veterans and helps them access their earned benefits and programs in the areas of education, housing, employment, healthcare, and more. The Bureau received a mandate from Maine’s Legislature to develop a Strategic Plan to End Veteran Homelessness in Maine. To ensure that the strategic planning process was as inclusive as possible, the Bureau convened a forum to gather input from stakeholders. We were hired to help plan and facilitate the forum and prepare a report of conclusions that will contribute to the development of the Strategic Plan. We also provided follow-up support to help the Bureau develop the plan.
Maine Children’s Alliance (2016)
The Maine Children’s Alliance (MCA) is a nonpartisan, data-focused advocate for public policies and practices that improve the lives of Maine’s children, youth and families. We were hired to plan and facilitate a team building staff retreat for MCA. Leigh Tillman served as lead facilitator on this project.
Maine Coast Sea Vegetables (2013-2019)
Located on the beautiful Downeast coast, Maine Coast Sea Vegetables harvests, dries, and sells about 100,000 pounds of certified organic sea vegetables annually. We were hired by this socially and environmentally conscious company to facilitate a series of long-range planning meetings among senior staff. We also facilitated all-staff meetings to discuss company changes and provided coaching and related services to leadership staff.
Maine Community Action Association (2016)
The Maine Community Action Association represents 10 Community Action Agencies that provide services to low income people across Maine. We were hired to facilitate the Association’s
annual strategic planning session.
Maine Crafts Association (2016)
The Maine Crafts Association works to strengthen individual craft artists – including artists of stone, wood, paper, clay, fiber, fabric, metal, and much more – while also supporting Maine communities, local economies, and the visitor experience by making Maine a national crafts destination. We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning retreat among members of the board, staff, and advisory board.
Maine Energy Marketers Association (2016-2017)
The Maine Energy Marketers Association represents over 300 Maine providers of heating oil, propane, biofuels, pellets, electricity, and motor fuels. We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning meeting to build shared understanding of the Association’s current situation, general strategic direction, near term tasks and long term goals, and roles of the board, committees, and staff. Building on the work done in the meeting, we also facilitated a series of meetings among committee chairs to make a work plan for the future.
Maine Health Data Organization (MHDO) Ad Hoc Consumer Group (2016-2018)
The Maine Health Data Organization (MHDO) is a state agency that collects health care data for the purpose of research, policy development, and health care improvements. We were hired to facilitate a series of meetings of an ad hoc group of consumer advisors who provided advice to MHDO on the new CompareMaine website, a tool to compare health care cost and quality options in Maine. We also provided complete reports of the meetings.
Maine Health Data Organization (MHDO) Board (2016)
The Maine Health Data Organization (MHDO) is a state agency that collects health care data for the purpose of research, policy development, and health care improvements. For the third year in a row we were hired to help plan and facilitate a retreat of MHDO Board members to reflect on the past year and plan for the future.
Maine Office of Tourism (2016)
The Maine Office of Tourism, an office within the Maine Department of Economic & Community Development, supports and expands the tourism industry and promotes the state as a tourism and filmmaking destination. We were hired to facilitate a Maine Office of Tourism staff retreat to review the Office’s strategic plan and optimize staff functioning.
Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) (2015-2016)
Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) is the oldest and largest state organic organization in the country. We were hired to help facilitate a multiphase strategic planning process. We began with a series of meetings, conversations, and surveys among stakeholder groups, board members, and staff members to help refine the organization’s values, vision and mission. In the next phase we facilitated a series of meetings to help define organizational goals and objectives.
Maine Public Health Association (2016)
The Maine Public Health Association (MPHA) is a member-based nonprofit organization advocating for polices and environments that promote public health and health equity in Maine. We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning retreat.
Maine Rail Group (2016)
The Maine Rail Group advocates for railroad utilization and encourages preservation and productive use of Maine’s rail system and its regional connections. We were hired to help plan and facilitate a visioning session to discuss the economic benefits of restoring rail service from Brunswick to Waterville, Maine.
Maine State Innovation Model (SIM) (2016)
The Maine State Innovation Model (SIM) is a partnership of health care providers, insurers, data analysts, and others with the goals of improving the health of Maine’s population, improving the experiences of Maine patients, and reducing the total costs of care. We were hired to facilitate a series of six meetings of the SIM Medicare Proposal Oversight Committee and support the Committee’s development of a proposal to explore innovative payment models for the Maine Medicare system.
Maine State Legislature Staff (2016)
The staff of the Maine State Legislature provide nonpartisan research, analysis, administrative and management services to the Legislative Council and its committees. At their annual retreat, Craig facilitated a workshop with Maine State Legislature employees to discuss and develop consensus on shared workplace values.
NAHGA Claim Services (2016, 2023)
Part of the Chalmers Insurance Group, NAHGA Claim Services provides third party claims administration, specializing in sports associations and student athletic programs. We were hired to plan and facilitate a strategic planning retreat among company leaders to build shared understanding of the company’s core competencies, future opportunities, strategic direction, and productivity and accountability protocols.
NAMI Maine (2016-2017)
NAMI Maine, the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, provides support, education, and advocacy to better the lives of those affected by mental illness. We were hired by the NAMI Maine System Reform Advisory Committee to help gather stakeholder input on indicators to measure the success of Maine’s mental health system, and to help plan action steps based on the input.
New Hampshire Lakes Association (2016)
The New Hampshire Lakes Association protects New Hampshire lakes and watersheds through education and advocacy. We were hired to facilitate a strategic thinking process including stakeholder input gathering and a series of board and committee meetings. The process resulted in a written statement of strategic direction.
Peace Action Maine (2016)
Peace Action Maine is a volunteer-led nonprofit working to support disarmament and non-violent conflict resolution. We were hired to facilitate a meeting to share and develop ideas about the future of Peace Action Maine as an organization, and other peace activities originating in Maine, over the next few years.
Portland Area Transit Providers Meeting (2016)
We were hired to facilitate a retreat among the leaders of the greater Portland, Maine area transit providers, to build shared understand among the agencies and discuss regional transit priorities. This meeting was initiated in part by the Transit Committee of PACTS, the Portland Area Comprehensive Transportation System. In addition to facilitating the retreat, we also provided a complete report.
Portland Public Works and Water District (2016)
The City of Portland, Maine, Public Works Department and the Portland Water District hired us to facilitate a meeting among the two organizations and local utilities, to discuss and prioritize projects in Portland and to build a more strategic alliance. We also prepared a complete report of the meeting.
R.H. Foster (2016)
R.H. Foster Energy provides heating fuels and operates convenience stores throughout northeastern Maine. We were hired to plan and facilitate a full-day strategic planning retreat among members of the leadership team. We also prepared a complete report of the retreat.
Sacopee Valley Health Center (2015-2016)
Building on our past work with the Sacopee Valley Health Center in Porter, Maine, we were hired to help plan and facilitate a staff retreat to work on strategic issues and plan for the future. We also prepared a complete report of the retreat.
Saratoga Springs Public Library (2016)
The Saratoga Springs Public Library in historic Saratoga Springs, New York, has a staff of over 100 serving the local school district and 500,000 visitors per year. We were hired to plan and facilitate a full-day staff retreat to develop a shared vision for the future of the library and do some fun team building activities. We also prepared a Complete Report of the retreat.
South Portland Fire Department (2016)
The South Portland Fire Department (SPFD) provides fire and emergency medical services to a community with a resident population of over 25,000 – one of Maine’s largest cities. We were hired to facilitate a series of meetings with the SPFD to help develop a purpose statement and and a broadly supported roadmap for the next five years.
State of Maine Board of Dental Examiners (2016)
The Maine Board of Dental Examiners licenses and monitors compliance among Maine’s dentists, hygienists, and related professions. We were hired to plan and facilitate a board workshop to determine top priorities for the next year and to clarify roles and responsibilities of the board.
Teens to Trails (2016)
Teens to Trails works to increase opportunities for Maine teens to experience the outdoors, and supports high school Outing Clubs across the State. Like last year, we were hired to plan and facilitate a special Board and Staff Retreat to help plan for the future. Also like last year, the retreat was held at a remote ski-in hut in western Maine! Our colleague Leigh Tillman acted as lead facilitator this year.
Trinity Jubilee Center (2016)
The Trinity Jubilee Center provides hot meals, healthy groceries, day shelter, refugee integration programs, and other services to people in Lewiston, Maine. We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning retreat among the members of the board. We also prepared a complete report of the retreat.
Wells Reserve at Laudholm (2016)
The Wells Reserve at Laudholm includes a National Estuarine Research Reserve (including 2,250 acres of coastal habitat) and a large historic saltwater farm (listed in the National Register of Historic Places). The Laudholm Trust is one of the organizations stewarding this unique property. Building on the Future Planning process we helped facilitate a few years ago, we were hired to facilitate a strategic plan “check-in” meeting to take stock of progress so far and adjust the plan for the future. Westbrook – City Forest Visioning (2016)
The City of Westbrook, Maine, had recently acquired a new parcel for its City Forest, and the Westbrook Recreation and Conservation Commission was seeking public input on how the land should be used. We were hired to facilitate two visioning meetings for participants to share ideas about what types of activities might be a good fit for the City Forest. We also prepared complete reports of the meetings.
Wild Seed Project (2016)
The Wild Seed Project works to increase the use of native plants in all landscape settings to promote biodiversity, plant resilience, wildlife habitat, and pollination and migration corridors. We were hired to facilitate a board retreat to discuss board and staff roles and plan for future work.
