Using a unique approach to problem solving, AARP hired us to facilitate a meeting among stakeholders to discuss a proposed legislative bill (LD 1078) that would reorganize the delivery of state-supported long term care. Held at the State House in Augusta, the meeting included the Commissioner and other top officials from the Department of Health and Human Services, legislators, and representatives from several organizations with an interest in long term care.

The American Psychiatric Association Area One Council, representing psychiatrists in the six New England states as well as Canada’s Eastern provinces and Quebec, engaged us to facilitate two meetings at its spring conference in Boston. We also prepared reports of the meetings.

Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is a 60-bed facility providing nursing care, assisted living, and rehabilitation therapies. We were hired to help facilitate development of a strategic plan. The process included industry/competitor analysis, internal and external stakeholder interviews, a staff survey, and a series of facilitated strategy team meetings.

This brand new and ambitious board of directors hired Craig to run a kick-off board retreat at which the group made several decisions about how they will operate as a board and approved a draft vision statement for their organization. The board operates by consensus, so there was a fair amount of time devoted to learning consensus process and conflict management.

Since 1985, Common Ties Mental Health Services has promoted the health and wellness of citizens of Androscoggin County by providing programs to support recovery from physical, mental, and substance abuse illnesses. We have been hired to help plan and facilitate a strategic planning retreat for the staff. We will also prepare a draft Strategic Plan based on results of the retreat.

The Consumer Council System of Maine has teamed up with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) to convene a series of meetings of peer and family support groups for people with mental and behavioral health challenges. The purpose of the meetings is to explore collaboration opportunities. We have been hired to help plan and facilitate the meetings and prepare a complete report.

Since its founding in 2002, the Daniel Hanley Center for Health Leadership has worked to build a solid foundation of healthcare leadership for Maine’s future. We were hired to facilitate a full day conference, “Accelerating Clinical Information Sharing for Maine's Behavioral Health Provider Community” and several follow-up meetings.

We facilitated a board retreat to develop a new three-year strategic plan for the DFD Russell Medical Centers (DFDRMC) in Leeds, Turner and Monmouth, an independent public/private partnership founded in 1975 to provide affordable and accessible health care to area residents.

In response to a recent legislative mandate, a coalition of organizations, including the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, the Maine Center for Economic Policy, the Muskie School of USM, and the DHHS Office of Elder Services, hired us to facilitate dialogue among health care providers, workers, and consumers. Our objective was to find common ground among these interests and develop consensus recommendations on the nature of a statewide registry of direct care workers.

The Disease Management Practicum Group and the Daniel Hanley Center for Health Leadership, in collaboration with The Institute for Civic Leadership hired us to facilitate a half-day retreat to explore new ways of preventing and managing chronic disease in Maine.

The Downeast District Coordinating Council for Public Health is overseeing implementation of a federal Community Transformation Grant which will help Washington and Hancock Counties expand efforts in tobacco-free, active living, healthy eating, quality clinical preventive services, and healthy and safe physical environments. We have been hired to help plan and facilitate a series of meetings of the Community Transformation Grant Oversight Committee, to develop a shared understanding and collaborative approach for implementing the grant. Leigh Tillman is serving as lead facilitator.

Eastern Maine Healthcare hired us to facilitate internal management discussions in order to improve collaboration and service delivery.

Eastport Health Care is a FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center) providing the residents of Washington County with comprehensive medical, dental and mental health care. We were hired to plan and facilitate a one-day retreat of the Board of Directors to review the mission and vision and begin crafting a strategic plan for the next five years.

The Family Planning Association of Maine raises awareness of family planning issues and provides health care services to Mainers, especially people with limited or no income and those who are uninsured. We were hired to facilitate a full-day staff retreat to explore workplace culture and the Association's work in clinical settings. We also prepared a Complete Report of the retreat.

The Healthy Community Coalition promotes health and well-being in Franklin county, Maine and surrounding towns. They hired us to facilitate a half-day retreat of the Board of Directors to establish priorities.

"Healing Of Persons Exceptional". Since its inception in 1987, the non-profit H.O.P.E. has provided support for individuals facing illness and life challenges to find meaning, value and purpose in their lives. We were hired to facilitate a planning retreat.

We were hired to provide four facilitators for the HRSA Community Strategic Partnership Conference in Portland, Maine in October. This was a gathering of practitioners from across New England to collaborate on ways to improve delivery of rural healthcare.

The federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) partnered with the Maine Primary Care Association and the Maine Center for Disease Control to hold a strategic partnership meeting focused on connecting specialists with rural health providers to address Hepatitis C. They hired us to facilitate a full day meeting of these providers to discuss how to improve connections with specialist consultants regarding the disease. In addition to facilitating the meeting, we prepared a complete report.

HealthInfoNet, a non-profit organization was established in 2006 to develop a statewide electronic health information exchange (HIE) for Maine. As a result, Maine is about to become one of the first states in the nation to develop a statewide HIE. We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning retreat for the Board of Directors.

Healthy Androscoggin is dedicated to improving the health of all Androscoggin County citizens through collaborative planning, community action, education and prevention. We facilitated a board retreat where directors reviewed recent accomplishments and built consensus around a strategic direction.

This non-profit advocacy group hired us to facilitate a strategic planning retreat in two parts. In October,2004 we helped them analyze their strengths and weaknesses and develop consensus on a vision. In early 2005, we helped them establish strategic directions and specific action plans.

Faced with difficult decisions on how to cut the state budget, legislative leaders asked organizations that provide elder services in Maine to consider how to find savings in the long-term care system. We were hired by the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOP) to facilitate this discussion.

On beautiful Mount Desert Island we spent a day with the board of directors of the Maine Assembly on School-Based Health Care. We helped the group decide their strategic priorities for the next five years and create a vision for school-based health centers, literally, on a huge 4’x8’ piece of paper!

The goal of the Maine Assembly on School-based Health Care (MeASBHC) is to improve children’s success by keeping them healthy, in school and ready to learn. MeASBHC supports the development and operations of school based health care services to accomplish this goal. We have worked with them before and they recently hired us again to help them survey stakeholders and finalize their strategic plan.

The Maine Association of Naturopathic Doctors is a professional association of naturopathic doctors (NDs) who live and work in Maine, dedicated to advancing the principles of naturopathic medicine and expanding Maine’s consumers' access to natural, prevention-based health care. We were hired to facilitate the annual strategic planning meeting of the Association. 

We were hired by the Maine Center for Disease Control (formerly the Bureau of Public Health) and the Muskie School for Public Service to facilitate four break-out sessions for a full-day, statewide conference on Pandemic Flu Planning for Communities.

The Maine Center for Disease Control (CDC) issued an RFP for statewide delivery of public health services. They convened a bidders conference in Augusta and asked Good Group Decisions to provide four facilitators for regional break-out sessions.

We were hired to provide several facilitators for a statewide conference designed to develop a plan to vaccinate Maine residents against the H1N1 virus, also known as Swine Flu.

We were hired by the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to facilitate a meeting of the Childhood Obesity Stakeholder Group, a cooperative of Maine State agencies and nonprofit organizations united to fight the obesity epidemic in children. The purpose of the meeting was to help the group make decisions about developing grant-funded programs.

Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) administers the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps, a group of volunteer medical professionals that are trained and equipped to deal with public health emergencies. There are four Medical Reserve Corps in Maine and we were hired to help organize a Statewide Advisory Group made up of representatives from each Corps. We facilitated two meetings of the advisory group and prepared complete reports of each. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) develops and delivers services to preserve, protect and promote the health and well-being of the citizens of Maine. We were hired to facilitate a full-day meeting to explore and refine foodborne illness outbreak response protocols. We also provided a full report of the meeting. Leigh Tillman served as lead facilitator.

Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Public Health Emergency Preparedness Unit reviews vulnerabilities in areas such as epidemiology, emergency medical services, weather services, and much more. We facilitated a meeting of over 50 statewide stakeholders to discuss and score the relative risks of potential hazardous events and situations in Maine. We also prepared a Complete Report of the meeting which included discussion comments as well as the scoring data for all 35 different situations.

In March, the Maine Dental Association hosted the New England Dental Leadership Conference, a gathering of dentists from the six New England states that will focus on the question, “What will the practice of dentistry look like in 2020?” We were hired to facilitate this 3-day conference.

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services was awarded a grant to develop a statewide Oral Health Improvement Plan in collaboration with stakeholders ranging from regulators to providers. We were sub-contracted by Medical Care Development to facilitate meetings of Maine's Oral Health Advisory Committee, to facilitate a statewide conference, and to write the resulting plan.

In moving to a system of Managed Care for mental health and substance abuse treatment services, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services wanted to be sure and hear from stakeholders about what was working well and what should be improved. In collaboration with the Muskie School for Public Service, we were asked to facilitate and report on a series of 14 public meetings designed to gather input. We also established a website for the benefit of the stakeholders.

The Maine Health Access Foundation convened 200 people at the Augusta Civic Center to discuss integration of Maine's mental, behavioral, and physical health systems. We provided several facilitators to manage the break-out sessions.

Made up of representatives from each of Maine’s 39 hospitals, the Maine Infection Prevention Collaborative (MIPC) seeks to prevent and control health care associated infections. We were hired to facilitate regular 5-hour meetings of the Collaborative. The MIPC makes decisions by consensus.

The Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation at Maine Medical Center hired us to facilitate a series of focus group discussions on how prostate cancer patients receive and react to information about their prognosis. The research will be used to improve how such information is conveyed.

At beautiful Maple Hill Farm in Hallowell, we facilitated a full day conference for the members of the Maine Nutrition Network. About a hundred people attended. We helped the group decide their mission and specific areas of work for the next few years, along with how they should best be structured to achieve their goals. As follow up, we helped them write their strategic plan to be finalized at their annual meeting.

The Maine Nutrition Network is a collaborative of public and private partners that coordinates nutrition and physical activity initiatives and contributes to policies and environments that improve the health of Maine people. We were hired to facilitate the Network's annual meeting of about 100 people - in order to engage strategic stakeholders and partners in a discussion about the future of the Network. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

As the representative voice of optometry in Maine, the Maine Optometric Association advances the quality and availability of eye, vision, and related health care in Maine. We have been hired to facilitate a meeting among members to develop organizational priority focus areas and an action plan for the next few years. 

The organization, which is dedicated to providing professional education and services for the osteopathic profession to ensure the quality of osteopathic care to the people of Maine, hired us to facilitate a full-day retreat of the Board of Directors focusing on strategic planning. Following the retreat, we prepared a report.

The Maine Primary Care Association works to strengthen and sustain Maine’s Primary Care Safety Net, providing high quality health care to underserved populations in Maine. We facilitated a board retreat, and prepared a complete meeting report that will serve as the basis of a strategic plan.

For over 25 years, the Maine Primary Care Association has worked to strengthen and sustain Maine’s Primary Care Safety Net. We were hired to facilitate two meetings among representatives of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) to discuss how to more effectively communicate medical information. We also prepared reports of each of the meetings.

Maine Quality Counts builds capabilities for patient-centered, equitable and high-quality health care in Maine. We were hired to help plan and facilitate two regional roundtable discussions among health care providers and administrators in Washington and Piscataquis Counties, on emerging models of health care. As part of this project we facilitated a simultaneous meeting in Calais and Machias, connected by an Interactive TV system. We are also preparing Complete Reports of the meetings. Leigh Tillman served as lead facilitator.

Affiliated with Dartmouth Medical School, the University of New England School of Osteopathic Medicine and MaineGeneral Medical Center, the Maine-Dartmouth Family Practice is a group of family practitioners serving the greater Waterville area and training resident doctors who specialize in family medicine. We were hired to help the management team develop a strategic plan to define the Practice's future. We facilitated a series of meetings over a two-year period which resulted in a written strategic plan.

The Manchester Health Department (MHD) provides public health services to the large, culturally diverse city of Manchester, New Hampshire (pop. 110,000). We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning process to help the MHD develop strategic goals and a framework for implementation. In addition to facilitating strategic planning meetings, we conducted stakeholder interviews and employee focus groups, and prepared a written final draft of the strategic plan.

Initially administered by Medical Care Development, the Casco Bay Coalition for Youth Substance Abuse Prevention launched a program called 21 Reasons. They hired us to facilitate an important organizational meeting that, among other things, resulted in renaming the program Casco Bay Can.

This highly successful partnership of physicians with offices in Brunswick, Lewiston and Augusta hired us to help them better define roles and governance procedures.

The managers and directors of the Patient Care Services division of Mercy Hospital hired us to facilitate a two-day off-site staff retreat at which we did team building exercises, expertiential learning, and strategic planning.

We were hired by the Integrated Core Injury Prevention and Control Program of the Muskie School of the University of Southern Maine to facilitate a full-day, statewide conference on how to reduce the misuse of perscription drugs. We provided multiple facilitators for the day and also prepared a report of the conference.

North Country Associates is a leading provider of post acute Medicare skilled nursing, rehabilitation and long term care in New England. This private corporation operates 20 facilities and has about 1600 employees. They hired us to work with their senior management team over a six month period to improve communications and overall productivity, and help establish their strategic direction.

The Waterville area PATCH (Planned Approach to Community Health) received a significant Healthy Maine Partnership grant from the Maine Center for Disease Control to provide public health and related services. We were hired to facilitate a board retreat to discuss how PATCH will transition into its new role. We also prepared a summary report of the meeting.

We have been hired to facilitate a meeting among five island health centers: Northhaven, Vinalhaven, Islesboro, Monhegan, and Matinicus. We will be using internet video technology. We will discuss improved collaboration and sharing resources among the island health centers.

Penobscot Community Health Care is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serving the 38 towns of greater Bangor. Its mission is to provide access, regardless of ability to pay, for people of the region to quality community health care services, and to promote access for all in Maine. We were hired to facilitate a retreat of board members to launch the development of PCHC’s strategic plan.

The Public Health Division of the City of Portland hired us to help them develop a strategic plan. We interviewed key stakeholders and facilitated a series of management meetings that resulted in a prioritized list of activities to be done over the next three years. The plan contains specific performance measures with data presented graphically.

Providence Service Corporation of Maine, also known as Providence of Maine, is an organization specializing in nonresidential community-based services. We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning retreat with the management staff.

The Quality Review Committee is a state-chartered group with responsibilities to review the quality of work that Elder Independence of Maine delivers to about 3,000 consumers of home-based care services throughout Maine. They hired us to facilitate a strategic planning session to re-consider their overall mission and scope of work.

The Quality Review Council is established by state law to review homecare services provided by Elder Independence of Maine. The Council reviews quality reports and also works on short-term, high priority projects to improve home care. We were retained to facilitate all regular meetings of the Council.

We were engaged to facilitate a mission retreat by Redington-Fairview General Hospital, an independent community hospital located in Skowhegan, Maine, that has provided quality, comprehensive health services to the residents of Somerset County since 1952. At the retreat we helped the organization develop a mission statement that is simple, understandable and compels enthusiasm.

The Daniel Hanley Center for Health Leadership was asked by Health Policy Partners of Maine to convene a forum that would bring together key leaders representing a wide range of interests. We were hired to facilitate a full-day discussion among educators, private employers, and environmentalists to develop strategies to reduce youth obesity in Maine.

We were hired to facilitate a board retreat to develop a new strategic plan for the Sacopee Valley Health Center, located in Porter, Maine, which has been delivering comprehensive health care services to the Sacopee Valley since 1976. In preparation for the retreat, we tabulated and analyzed the results of a community-wide survey conducted by the Health Center. We also prepared a report of the board retreat.

Shalom House helps hundreds of people with serious mental illness each year by providing affordable housing where people can escape the stress of homelessness, hunger, and isolation. We were hired to deliver training on communications and conflict management styles.

Tri-County Mental Health Services delivers state of the art mental health, substance abuse, habilitation, and life skills services to the people of Maine. We were hired to facilitate a staff training session.

This United Way, based in Bath, hired us to facilitate discussion among providers of mental health service in the Mid Coast region in order to identify gaps in service and to plan for improved service delivery in the future.

Founded in 1978, with campuses in Portland and Biddeford, the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine trains students to become osteopathic physicians. The Dean of the College convened a conclave among all the faculty to discuss the future of the College. We were hired to facilitate and provide a complete report of the conclave. In addition to discussing strategic issues we also did some team building.

VNA Home Health Care is a major provider of home health and hospice care affiliated with Mercy Hospital and serving families throughout Cumberland and northern York Counties since 1921. We facilitated a multi-day leadership retreat at Camp Kieve on the shores of Damariscotta Lake where we worked on strategic planning and team building.

Volunteers of America Northern New England hosted a statewide conference to confront the problem of misuses of prescription drugs. Participants from the medical, pharmacology, law enforcement, substance abuse treatment & prevention, and mental health fields discussed how medicine moves from health to hazard, what can be done to intervene in the diversion process and what some communities across Maine are doing to tackle this growing concern. We were hired to facilitate the conference as well as follow-up meetings with the leaders to define next steps.

Since 1980, Arts Are Elementary (AAE) has brought visual artists, writers and performers into the Brunswick elementary schools, reaching all children in grades one through five with fun, inspiring models and opportunities for creative expression. The Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust (BTLT) preserves acreage of ecological, agricultural and aesthetic importance in the neighboring towns of Brunswick and Topsham. BTLT hired us to facilitate a full day board retreat focused on the future of Crystal Spring Farm, a working farm owned by BTLT that raises vegetables and livestock, maintains recreational trails, and hosts a farmers' market on 320 acres. Since 1985, the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust has preserved more than 1,100 acres in the neighboring towns of Brunswick and Topsham in an effort to protect properties with true ecological, agricultural and aesthetic importance. With support from the Maine Department of Agriculture, we were hired to facilitate an outreach meeting among farmers and neighbors.

The Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust teamed up with the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust on a long term project to help improve sustainability of local agriculture in the Merrymeeting Bay Region. Elder Independence of Maine (EIM) is Maine's Home Care Coordination Agency. A division of SeniorsPlus, EIM connects people throughout the state of Maine with home care services. We were hired to conduct a retreat for senior management to improve meeting efficiencies and role definition.

A large coalition of organizations that serve elderly in various ways banded together in a coalition and retained us to facilitate their monthly meetings which always consisted of exchanging information about state and federal policy initiatives and often included outside speakers on topics of interest. In addition, we provided complete secretariat services which included meeting write up and distribution, handling all correspondence, managing a website and list serve on behalf of the group, and arranging meeting facilities. The Environmental Education Funders Collaborative (EEFC) is an informal collaborative of funders in the San Francisco Bay Area that develops avenues for sharing and partnering with the many stakeholders in the field of environmental and science education. We were hired to plan and facilitate a full-day conference of environmental educators and funders in San Francisco, CA.

The Family Planning Association of Maine raises awareness of family planning issues and provides health care services to Mainers, especially people with limited or no income and those who are uninsured. We were hired by the Farmington Downtown Association to help assess parking supply and demand, consumer preferences for retail opportunities, and strategies for improving business downtown. In 2006, GrowSmart Maine brought The Brookings Institution here to develop Charting Maine’s Future, a report that created a vision for Maine and an Action Plan to achieve that vision. Now, in 2012, GrowSmart Maine is assessing the impact of Charting Maine's Future and updating the Action Plan. We were hired to manage this assessment and update project, including conducting research and interviews with dozens of Maine's influential leaders, facilitating meetings to develop new recommendations, drafting text for the new report, and coordinating graphic design and printing for the report. The Gulf of Maine Research Institute convened ground fishermen from Cape Cod to the coastal Maine to discuss new, innovative ways to manage the fishery. With the hope of achieving consensus on recommendations to the New England Fisheries Management Council, we were hired to facilitate the discussions and prepare a report of conclusions.

How will the catch be monitored and reported under the new system? L/A Arts increases awareness, appreciation and support of the arts in the Lewiston-Auburn area by offering programs in education, performance and community service. We were hired to facilitate a full day retreat of the staff and board focused on strategic planning.

Since 1974, Legal Services for the Elderly has provided free, high quality, statewide legal services to Maine’s socially and economically needy elderly age 60 and over. We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning retreat of members of the board and staff.

Lincoln Academy, an independent secondary school in Newcastle, Maine, and Kieve-Wavus, an 85-year old experiential education and leadership organization in Nobleboro, Maine, have established a Task Force to explore possibilities for an educational collaboration. To help ensure a fair and efficient process, we were hired to facilitate the work of the Task Force.

Maine & Company, a non-profit corporation, provides free and confidential services to companies locating to or growing in Maine. The board of directors is comprised of senior executives from successful Maine companies, the president of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce and the commissioner of Maine's Department of Economic & Community Development (DECD). They hired us to facilitate a board session focused on establishing strategic direction and short term projects.

On beautiful Mount Desert Island we spent a day with the board of directors of the Maine Assembly on School-Based Health Care. We helped the group decide their strategic priorities for the next five years and create a vision for school-based health centers, literally, on a huge 4’x8’ piece of paper!

The goal of the Maine Assembly on School-based Health Care (MeASBHC) is to improve children’s success by keeping them healthy, in school and ready to learn. MeASBHC supports the development and operations of school based health care services to accomplish this goal. We have worked with them before and they recently hired us again to help them survey stakeholders and finalize their strategic plan.

The Maine Association of Nonprofits, representing over 700 nonprofit organizations in Maine, hired us to facilitate a full day conference at Maple Hill Farm in Hallowell, to kick off an exploration of how to improve delivery of human services in Maine via nonprofits. The Maine Association of Planners (MAP) is a membership organization that promotes, supports, and encourages the practice of planning in Maine. We were hired to help MAP update its strategic plan by designing and facilitating a process to gather input from members and key stakeholders.

Maine Audubon works to conserve Maine’s wildlife and wildlife habitat by engaging people of all ages in education, conservation and action. We were hired to facilitate a two-day strategic planning retreat for the board and staff. This was follow-up on work we did to help Maine Audubon refine brand identity.

Each year, Maine Coast Heritage Trust hosts the Maine Land Conservation Conference. The theme of 2008'S conference was Connecting Conservation and Communities. We facilitated the conference Idea Forum, a session designed to give colleagues in the field the opportunity to share and brainstorm new partnerships, financing mechanisms and other tools for land conservation in Maine.

The Land Trust Alliance, State Planning Office, NOAA, Maine Coast Heritage Trust and other organizations embarked on a three-year project to increase conservation lands along Maine's coast. They hired us to facilitate their meetings and help them establish a coalition of over thirty organizations and begin to develop their plan.

For more than 25 years, the Maine Community Foundation has been a leader in philanthropy in Maine. Its grants cover the full range of nonprofit undertakings, with a special focus in the areas of education, the environment, arts and humanities, and social and community services. In light of the changing economy and changing leadership at the Foundation, the Board hired us to help revise the organization’s strategic plan.

In March, the Maine Dental Association hosted the New England Dental Leadership Conference, a gathering of dentists from the six New England states that will focus on the question, “What will the practice of dentistry look like in 2020?” We were hired to facilitate this 3-day conference.

As in previous years, we were hired by the Maine Development Foundation to research and author Measures of Growth 2005, the annual report of indicators of Maine's economic, community, and environmental well-being. The report is used by the governor, legislators, agency leaders, business leaders, and non-profits to assess the state's economic, demographic, and environmental trends.

Van Buren is a small community on the St. John River in Northern Maine with a downtown that has been in decline over the past 40 years. Now designated a Main Street Maine downtown, community leaders are taking steps to reverse the trend. We have been hired by the Maine Downtown Center to help with strategic planning, downtown revitalization training, and related activities.

We created an online resource library for the Maine Downtown Center to assist the organization in its mission of fostering downtown development that is dynamic and community-based, and that results in economic development, business growth, job creation, housing revitalization, historic preservation, and cultural enhancement. Maine downtowns of all sizes can access the downtown revitalization information from this online resource library.

We facilitated a full-day retreat of the Maine Downtown Center Advisory Council, a diverse group of leaders who lend advice on how to foster the vitality of Maine's precious downtowns. We helped them examine the past year's activities and establish priorities for the next year and years to come.

The Maine Downtown Center administers the National Main Street Program here in Maine. They hired us to work with Main Street organizations in both Skowhegan and Livermore Falls. In Skowhegan, we interviewed all members of the board, and facilitated a full-day board retreat to work on organizational development issues. In Livermore Falls, we facilitated a full-day retreat that will result in a strategic plan.

The Maine Farmers' Market Convention hired us to provide a training session on conflict prevention, management, and resolution. The Maine Farmers' Market Convention is an annual event organized and presented by the Downeast Business Alliance. The 2011 convention was held in January in Belfast, Maine.

For the second year in a row we were hired to provide training in conflict management for the Maine Farmers' Market Convention. The convention was in Freeport on January 27 & 28,2012.

The Maine Farmers' Market Convention hired Craig to present a keynote talk on The Wisdom of Group Decisions. For the third year in a row Craig also provided a training session; this year's topic was strategic planning. The Maine Farmers' Market Convention is an annual event organized and presented by the Downeast Business Alliance. The 2013 convention was held at Point Lookout in beautiful Northport, Maine.

The Maine Global Warming Action Coalition is administered by the Natural Resources Council of Maine and consists of twenty nonprofit organizations concerned with global warming. They came together to discuss a common agenda and how best to work with each other. In addition to facilitating a meeting, we also helped with an advance survey of all coalition members and we prepared a summary report.

The Maine Grain Alliance is a nonprofit organization working to preserve and promote grain traditions. The Maine Grain Alliance oversees The KNEADING Conference, held annually in Skowhegan, which brings together farmers, bakers, and wood-fired oven enthusiasts. Building on our previous work with the steering committee of The KNEADING Conference, we were hired to help the Maine Grain Alliance with a series of strategic planning meetings. As a result of this work, we prepared a draft strategic plan.

The Maine Health Access Foundation convened 200 people at the Augusta Civic Center to discuss integration of Maine's mental, behavioral, and physical health systems. We provided several facilitators to manage the break-out sessions.

The Maine Housing and Building Materials Exchange benefits low income families and the environment by providing new and reusable building materials at an affordable price. They hired us to facilitate two half-day meetings of the board of directors which resulted in a written strategic plan.

The Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation at Maine Medical Center hired us to facilitate a series of focus group discussions on how prostate cancer patients receive and react to information about their prognosis. The research will be used to improve how such information is conveyed.

The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) hired us to facilitate a discussion among the MOFGA board of directors and the board of directors of MOFGA Certification Services, LLC, the wholly-owned subsidiary of MOFGA that certifies organic farmers on behalf of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) is the oldest and largest state organic organization in the country. Each year, volunteers and professionals moderate panel discussions at the Farmer to Farmer Conference put on by MOFGA. We were hired to provide training for volunteer moderators. Several Good Group Decisions Associates then joined other volunteers in facilitating panel discussions at the 2010 conference. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

The Maine Philanthropy Center, a regional association of grantmakers working together to promote philanthropy and to increase its impact in Maine, is convening a conference entitled “Improving Food Access with Local Food”. We have been hired to help plan the day and help facilitate audience participation.

The Maine Primary Care Association works to strengthen and sustain Maine’s Primary Care Safety Net, providing high quality health care to underserved populations in Maine. We facilitated a board retreat, and prepared a complete meeting report that will serve as the basis of a strategic plan.

The Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society explores, develops and promotes agricultural systems and practices that allow Maine farmers to retain a greater share of consumer expenditures for farm products. We facilitated a half-day board retreat focused on strategic planning. In advance of the retreat, we interviewed each board member and prepared a report of the findings which informed the discussion around the future direction of the organization. Six months after the planning retreat, we facilitated a follow-up board retreat.

The Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society (MESAS) explores, develops and promotes agricultural systems and practices that allow Maine farmers to retain a greater share of consumer expenditures for farm products. As part of the MESAS "More Maine Meat" project, we were hired to facilitate a series of meetings among farmers, processors, distributors, government agencies, researchers, agricultural organizations, and consumers to identify key constraints and opportunities in Maine's sustainable meat industry.

Rockingham Nutrition and Meals on Wheels Program, Inc. provides nutritious meals and beneficial support services to older and disabled residents of Rockingham County, New Hampshire. Initially administered by Medical Care Development, the Casco Bay Coalition for Youth Substance Abuse Prevention launched a program called 21 Reasons. They hired us to facilitate an important organizational meeting that, among other things, resulted in renaming the program Casco Bay Can.

The managers and directors of the Patient Care Services division of Mercy Hospital hired us to facilitate a two-day off-site staff retreat at which we did team building exercises, expertiential learning, and strategic planning.

In various capacities, including volunteer Board Chair, Craig has served as a consultant to the Merriconeag Waldorf School parents, faculty, and board members on issues including the school's overall growth and development and specific projects.

Located in Freeport, Merriconeag is Maine’s largest Waldorf school, offering pre-K through high school education to almost 300 students. We were hired to work with teachers and parents on organizational development issues.

"Art for everyone!" is the motto at Merrymeeting Arts Center in Bowdoinham, Maine, where children and adults can participate in and enjoy the arts and celebrate the cultural heritage and natural environment of beautiful Merrymeeting Bay. We were hired to facilitate two gatherings of board members and stakeholders to plan for a sustainable future of the arts center.

We were hired to facilitate a public meeting where participants could learn about each other's work and share ideas about how to inspire and support positive changes.

The senior management team of the Methodist Conference Home, a non-profit organization based in Rockland that provides housing, transportation and other services, hired us to help them establish shared goals and clear roles and responsibilities.

Despite the growing number of green building practitioners, the actual transformation of Maine’s built environment towards improved energy efficiency is not happening fast enough. This is the challenge that Mid-Coast Magnet, a non-profit based in Rockland/Camden, confronted at the statewide Built Energy Forum in Augusta. We were hired to facilitate the break-out sessions of the conference. We also prepared the conference report.

Craig delivered a keynote address entitled What’s Next? Same Old or New and Different? This fits with this year's annual conference theme: Come to Camp for Change. It was an interactive discussion of how we welcome change, or not.

Midcoast Magnet attracts, connects and retains professionals in the midcoast region, which they loosely define as Knox and Waldo Counties. They hired us to facilitate a meeting of diverse stakeholders to begin defining a brand for the midcoast region; that is, a way to promote the region as a great place to live, work, or visit. In addition to facilitating this half-day meeting at the Camden Opera House, we also prepared a Complete Report of the meeting.

Three organizations, National Audubon Society, Maine Audubon and Kieve-WavusEducation, Inc., collectively hired us to facilitate discussions about the future of Hog Island, off the coast of Maine near Bremen.

On the heels of two globally significant forest conservation projects, and related fundraising, the board of this sophisticated organization wanted to improve board engagement and be sure of where they were headed next. We facilitated two board meetings and helped them with strategic planning and organizational development.

The Northern Forest Canoe Trail is a 700-mile wilderness waterway in New York, Vermont, Quebec, New Hampshire and Maine. We were hired to work with businesses along the Maine section of the trail to design and develop packages for tourists, including specific itineraries. This project is supported by a federal Rural Business Enterprise Grant (RBEG) to promote economic development in the Northern Forest.

The Northern Forest Center convened a two-day conference to advance recommendations of the sustainable economy initiative. One hundred people from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York convened to develop consensus on top-priority activities to advance the Northern Forest economy in a sustainable manner. We were hired to facilitate the Regional Coordination and Advocacy Work Group.

When Lauri toy manufacturing company closed its doors in Avon, Maine, it left behind a terrific facility which local community leaders are now rallying around. A non-profit corporation was formed to use the facility in innovative ways to prepare workers for new jobs in growing industries and to bring education, services, and culture to an area that has been previously underserved. CEI, in partnership with the Western Maine Sustainable Development Collaborative, hired us to help with strategic planning and organizational development.

Opportunity Farm is a non-profit, social service organization in New Gloucester, Maine that provides safe, supportive, family-style homes for at-risk young people. On the eve of its 100th anniversary the leadership of Opportunity Farm convened a group of experts and stakeholders to give input on future strategic direction. We were hired to facilitate the discussion and prepare a report.

Park Danforth provides high quality housing and services to seniors in Portland, Maine. The nonprofit corporation manages 160 apartments and a full complement of services and programs. They hired us to facilitate a two-day retreat of the board of directors and prepare a complete report of the meeting.

The Waterville area PATCH (Planned Approach to Community Health) received a significant Healthy Maine Partnership grant from the Maine Center for Disease Control to provide public health and related services. We were hired to facilitate a board retreat to discuss how PATCH will transition into its new role. We also prepared a summary report of the meeting.

Penobscot Community Health Care is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serving the 38 towns of greater Bangor. Its mission is to provide access, regardless of ability to pay, for people of the region to quality community health care services, and to promote access for all in Maine. We were hired to facilitate a retreat of board members to launch the development of PCHC’s strategic plan.

People Plus, located in Brunswick, supports an engaged, healthy, and independent life for older adults, while joining others to build community for all ages. At a turning point in the organization’s evolution, we were hired to design a survey, conduct a focus group meeting with community leaders, and facilitate a board retreat to establish the organization’s strategic direction.

The Pine Tree Society provides Maine children and adults with disabilities the opportunities and the means to create better lives for themselves and their families. We were engaged to provide training for their staff in communications and in conflict prevention and resolution.

The Portland Symphony Orchestra recognizes and takes seriously its role as a leading community educator about orchestral music. To be most effective, the orchestra wanted to nurture collaborative relationships with music educators and organizational partners from throughout the community. We were hired to facilitate a Music Educators and Organizational Partners Forum to brainstorm and prioritize ideas.

A program of the Maine Development Foundation, REALIZE!Maine connects young people (ages 20-40) with exceptional opportunities to live, work and play in Maine. We were hired to facilitate a half-day meeting of the Steering Committee focused on long term goals and establishing next year's work plan.

At the retreat we helped the organization develop a mission statement that is simple, understandable and compels enthusiasm.

Portland's Regional Transpotation Program (RTP) provides publicly funded, low-cost transportation to persons in Cumberland County, Maine, who need rides. We were hired to faciliate a strategic planning retreat of the Board of Directors. As a result of this work, we prepared a complete report of the meeting and a draft strategic plan.

The Restorative Justice Institute of Maine hired Craig to plan and facilitate a two-day conference called "Restorative Justice Think Tank: Realizing our Vision of a Restorative State".

The Restorative Practitioner Training Institute is a new program of the Restorative Justice Institute of Maine and Youth MOVE Maine. Over 9 months, selected participants will attend a series of gatherings to build skills and support the development of restorative practices in Maine’s communities. We were hired to facilitate a board retreat to develop a new strategic plan for the Sacopee Valley Health Center, located in Porter, Maine, which has been delivering comprehensive health care services to the Sacopee Valley since 1976. In preparation for the retreat, we tabulated and analyzed the results of a community-wide survey conducted by the Health Center. We also prepared a report of the board retreat.

Shalom House helps hundreds of people with serious mental illness each year by providing affordable housing where people can escape the stress of homelessness, hunger, and isolation. We were hired to deliver training on communications and conflict management styles.

Via a number of interactive games and activities, we discussed the causes of stress, reactions to stress (healthy and unhealthy) and developed a list of strategies to reduce stress.

Shalom House provides an array of community based services and quality housing for adults living with severe mental illness in Maine. We have been hired to facilitate a full-day retreat, among staff from all over the state, focused on team building and improving productivity and efficiency.

The Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association is a non-profit land trust and advocacy group of 550 member families that has been working since 1969 on conservation and restoration of the natural and historic heritage of the Sheepscot Watershed in  midcoast Maine. We were hired to facilitate a process to help the board make an important decision.

The Spannocchia Foundation seeks to encourage global dialogue about sustaining cultural landscapes for future generations through the example of the Tenuta di Spannocchia, a centuries-old agricultural estate located about 12 miles southwest of Siena in central Tuscany, Italy. We were hired to facilitate a three-day strategic planning board retreat at the Castello di Spannocchia, located on the Tenuta.

“Speak Out!” was a panel discussion and forum held in Brunswick, Maine, to address critical issues facing women in the 2012 election and to encourage women to consider political and economic leadership roles. In a volunteer capacity, we worked with the student-led planning committee and helped moderate the forum.

Spurwink Services provides behavioral health, educational, and residential services for children, adolescents, adults, and families in Maine and beyond. We were hired to facilitate a strategic direction retreat for the board of directors. We also prepared a complete report of the meeting.

St. Joseph’s Manor offers a range of nursing home services including assisted living, skilled nursing care, and adult day care. This private, non-profit provides a true continuum of care at its beautiful Portland facility. We were hired to help the board analyze their current situation and establish strategic goals.

The Maine Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is a nonprofit dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front. We were hired to plan and facilitate a two-day retreat among members of the board. The retreat included a situation analysis, goal development, and team building activities.

This community-oriented non-profit based in Brunswick, Maine hired us to facilitate a board meeting to discuss and make decisions about important organizational changes. The organization is striving to achieve a new level. In addition to facilitating the meeting, we also prepared a summary report.

Tri-County Mental Health Services delivers state of the art mental health, substance abuse, habilitation, and life skills services to the people of Maine. We were hired to facilitate a staff training session.

Given how much United Way staff are involved in facilitating meetings both internally and externally, they invested in a full day of meeting facilitation training. We discussed principles, techniques, and even did some fun role-playing.

The United Way hired us to facilitate two meetings of the leadership of Preble Street and Wayside Soup Kitchen, two social service agencies in Portland, to define roles and responsibilities.

This United Way, based in Bath, hired us to facilitate discussion among providers of mental health service in the Mid Coast region in order to identify gaps in service and to plan for improved service delivery in the future.

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension hired us to plan and facilitate two meetings to help Cooperative Extension organize their SNAP-Ed program: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance ProgramEducation, which helps low-income individuals make healthy food choices. Leigh Tillman served as lead facilitator.

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension puts university research to work in homes, businesses, farms, and communities throughout Maine, providing education and practical solutions for agriculture, natural resources, economic opportunity, and lifelong wellness. Craig has been hired to facilitate three sessions at the two-day Annual Organizational meeting for Cooperative Extension staff. Topics will cover strategic planning and practical ideas for handling challenges in group situations.

The University of Maine Pulp & Paper Foundation financially supports and prepares well-educated engineering students for careers in the pulp and paper and allied industries with full tuition merit based scholarships. We were hired to plan and facilitate a series of meetings among Foundation board and staff and stakeholders from the University and the industry to help develop a strategic plan for the Foundation. We prepared complete reports of the meetings and a draft strategic plan.

The Colleges of Arts and Sciences at the University of New England hired us to work on organizational issues within a particular department. Our work involved individual interviews followed by a full-day retreat.

VNA Home Health Care is a major provider of home health and hospice care affiliated with Mercy Hospital and serving families throughout Cumberland and northern York Counties since 1921. We facilitated a multi-day leadership retreat at Camp Kieve on the shores of Damariscotta Lake where we worked on strategic planning and team building.

Working in partnership with government agencies, businesses, individuals, and other nonprofit organizations, this VOA chapter seeks to meet the most pressing social needs in the communities it serves in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Leaders of community justice projects in Androscoggin, Lincoln and Sagadahoc Counties are collaborating to form a tri-county effort to promote safe communities by reducing crime and violence. We were hired by Volunteers of America to facilitate initial organizational meetings of the Tri-County Justice Project and prepare summary reports.

Volunteers of America Northern New England hosted a statewide conference to confront the problem of misuses of prescription drugs. Participants from the medical, pharmacology, law enforcement, substance abuse treatment & prevention, and mental health fields discussed how medicine moves from health to hazard, what can be done to intervene in the diversion process and what some communities across Maine are doing to tackle this growing concern. We were hired to facilitate the conference as well as follow-up meetings with the leaders to define next steps.

Western Maine Community Action is a social service agency that has been providing energy, housing, health, and employment services for over 40 years to people living in the western mountain region of Maine. We were hired to facilitate and provide a complete report for a senior management staff retreat that will focus on strategic planning.

The Western Maine Sustainable Development Collaborative convened a regional conference on April 29,2004 in Farmington to explore opportunities for sustainable development and promote an asset-based approach. The Collaborative hired us to moderate the conference and prepare a summary report.

Four organizations, Coastal Enterprises, Inc., Maine Center for Economic Policy, Mountain Counties Heritage Network, and the Western Mountains Alliance, joined together "to harness and encourage multiple efforts to achieve regional sustainable development that balances economic, environmental, and community values." For over two years, Craig facilitated their regular, half-day meetings.

This coalition of public transportation providers in southern New Hampshire hired us to facilitate a retreat focused on priorities for service delivery and how to work most effectively as a coalition.

The American Psychiatric Association (APA) is the world’s largest psychiatric organization representing more than 33,000 psychiatric physicians from the United States and around the world. Craig was hired by the APA District Branch Executives to deliver a 3-hour Facilitative Leadership training in Washington, DC for Executive Directors of regional chapters.

The American Psychiatric Association Area One Council, representing psychiatrists in the six New England states as well as Canada’s Eastern provinces and Quebec, engaged us to facilitate two meetings at its spring conference in Boston. We also prepared reports of the meetings.

The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Town of Bar Harbor and other key institutions, convened a series of meetings among business and community leaders to discuss innovative approaches to developing more business activity in the shoulder seasons. We were hired to facilitate these multi-stakeholder meetings and prepare the resulting summary reports.

Casco Bay Create Awareness Now (CAN) Coalition is a group of local individuals, schools, law enforcement agencies, organizations, and businesses who work together to prevent and reduce youth substance abuse in Cumberland, Falmouth, Freeport, North Yarmouth, Pownal and Yarmouth. We were hired to help plan and facilitate a semi-annual meeting of Casco Bay CAN. One purpose of the semi-annual meeting was to develop a sustainability strategy among key stakeholders.

The Casco Bay Coalition for Youth Substance Abuse Prevention is a group of local individuals, schools, law enforcement agencies, organizations, and businesses who work together to prevent and reduce youth substance abuse in Cumberland, Falmouth, Freeport, North Yarmouth, Pownal and Yarmouth. We were hired to facilitate a meeting of the Steering Committee to develop a work plan for implementing new grant funds and to decide on the coalition's new name: Casco Bay CAN (Create Awareness Now) Coalition.

The Casco Bay Estuary Partnership (CBEP) is a collaborative effort of people and organizations interested in protecting and restoring Casco Bay, on the southern coast of Maine. CBEP hired us to help plan and facilitate a two-day Board retreat to establish short-term priorities, prepare for long-term strategic planning, and build enthusiasm and renewed commitment among the Board. We teamed up with Ann Gosline of Gosline & Reitman for this project.

Craig was asked to facilitate a plenary session of "Creating Better Neighborhoods for the Future", this year's national conference of the Cohousing Association of the United States. Craig planned and facilitated a World Cafe-style discussion of about 100 people on the topic: "How can cohousing help?" The group came to some conclusions about the relevancy of cohousing in light of today's environmental, economic, and social concerns.

The Consumer Council System of Maine has teamed up with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) to convene a series of meetings of peer and family support groups for people with mental and behavioral health challenges. The purpose of the meetings is to explore collaboration opportunities. We have been hired to help plan and facilitate the meetings and prepare a complete report.

A large coalition of organizations that serve elderly in various ways banded together in a coalition and retained us to facilitate their monthly meetings which always consisted of exchanging information about state and federal policy initiatives and often included outside speakers on topics of interest. In addition, we provided complete secretariat services which included meeting write up and distribution, handling all correspondence, managing a website and list serve on behalf of the group, and arranging meeting facilities. The group tried to influence state policy to better serve elderly people. More recently, we were hired to facilitate a strategic planning meeting for the coalition.

The Elder Justice Partners is a partnership of 17 state government and non-profit agencies working to protect Maine seniors. Elder Justice Partners convened a day-long summit of leaders working in the area of elder abuse to highlight the current state of elder abuse outreach and prosecution and plan for the future of elder abuse work in Maine. We were hired to facilitate and prepare a complete report of the summit.

The Environmental Education Funders Collaborative (EEFC) is an informal collaborative of funders in the San Francisco Bay Area that develops avenues for sharing and partnering with the many stakeholders in the field of environmental and science education. We were hired to plan and facilitate a full-day conference of environmental educators and funders in San Francisco, CA.

This young non-profit is Maine’s foremost coalition of leaders from across the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. They hired us to help them establish their strategic direction. We facilitated a full-day retreat of the board and prepared a report which is serving as the basis for their strategic plan.

This energetic and rapidly growing non-profit is Maine’s foremost coalition of leaders from across the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. Like the year before, they hired us again to facilitate a full-day board retreat and prepare a complete report.

The Maine Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council is Maine’s foremost coalition of leaders from across the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. For the third time, they hired us to facilitate a full-day board retreat and prepare a complete report.

The Home Care Alliance of Maine, a statewide trade association, hired us to plan and facilitate their annual meeting of members. During a full-day meeting, we discussed the organization's membership and dues structure, committee structures, and related issues. We also prepared a complete report of the meeting.

This statewide non-profit, consisting of home health care providers, hospice providers and other health care organizations, hired us to facilitate two meetings in order to develop recommendations to the state on how to ease administrative burdens on health care providers.

On beautiful Mount Desert Island we spent a day with the board of directors of the Maine Assembly on School-Based Health Care. We helped the group decide their strategic priorities for the next five years and create a vision for school-based health centers, literally, on a huge 4’x8’ piece of paper!

The goal of the Maine Assembly on School-based Health Care (MeASBHC) is to improve children’s success by keeping them healthy, in school and ready to learn. MeASBHC supports the development and operations of school based health care services to accomplish this goal. We have worked with them before and they recently hired us again to help them survey stakeholders and finalize their strategic plan.

The Maine Association of Naturopathic Doctors is a professional association of naturopathic doctors (NDs) who live and work in Maine, dedicated to advancing the principles of naturopathic medicine and expanding Maine’s consumers' access to natural, prevention-based health care. We were hired to facilitate the annual strategic planning meeting of the Association. 

The Maine Association of Planners (MAP) is a membership organization that promotes, supports, and encourages the practice of planning in Maine. We were hired to help MAP update its strategic plan by designing and facilitating a process to gather input from members and key stakeholders.

The Maine Center for Economic Policy (MECEP) conducts research, analysis, citizen education, and coalition building to advance public policies that help Maine people prosper in a strong, fair and sustainable economy. We were hired to plan and facilitate a meeting for members of the Maine Can Do Better coalition, which is currently hosted by MECEP, to clarify the purpose and structure of the coalition.

The Maine Council of Churches is an ecumenical community of nine denominations dedicated to the vision of a sustainable, just, and compassionate world. We were hired to facilitate a meeting of the Board of Directors to discuss strategic planning and organizational development issues. We also prepared a complete report of the meeting.

We planned and facilitated a full-day retreat of the Maine County Commissioner's Association which consists of County Commissioners and Administrators from thoughout Maine. The retreat resulted in several key decisions about the organization's strategic direction and specific tasks to be done.

In March, the Maine Dental Association hosted the New England Dental Leadership Conference, a gathering of dentists from the six New England states that will focus on the question, “What will the practice of dentistry look like in 2020?” We were hired to facilitate this 3-day conference.

This volunteer collaborative of organizations and individuals who promote and facilitate environmental education hired us to facilitate their full-day board retreat intended to result in a strategic plan.

Like they did four years ago, the Maine  Environmental Education Association (MEEA) has hired us to facilitate a strategic planning retreat of the Board of Directors. As part of this work, we also conducted an online survey of MEEA board members, members, and advocacy groups. As a result of the meeting, we prepared a draft strategic plan.

A joint project of the Maine Community Foundation and Maine Philanthropy Center, the Environmental Funders Network helps to identify and create ways to improve and sustain Maine's natural environment. We were hired to facilitate a full-day strategic planning meeting of the board of directors.

We were hired to facilitate two meetings which explored potential collaborations around the theme of "Quality of Place." Members discussed how the environmental philanthropic community can work together to improve the quality of Maine’s environment.

The Environmental Funders Network, an alliance of Maine-based foundations with environmental interests, helps to identify and create ways to improve and sustain Maine’s natural environment. We were hired to facilitate another meeting in the group's continuing exploration of how to collaborate around the theme of "Quality of Place."

We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning retreat for this coalition of environmental philanthropists. As a joint project of the Maine Community Foundation and Maine Philanthropy Center, the Environmental Funders Network helps to identify and create ways to improve and sustain Maine's natural environment.

The Maine Global Warming Action Coalition is administered by the Natural Resources Council of Maine and consists of twenty nonprofit organizations concerned with global warming. They came together to discuss a common agenda and how best to work with each other. In addition to facilitating a meeting, we also helped with an advance survey of all coalition members and we prepared a summary report.

The Maine Immigrant Rights Coalition brings together allies to identify issues affecting Maine’s immigrant communities and to advocate collectively for solutions. We were hired to facilitate a full-day retreat for the Coalition to make decisions about future priorities and organizational structure.

At beautiful Maple Hill Farm in Hallowell, we facilitated a full day conference for the members of the Maine Nutrition Network. About a hundred people attended. We helped the group decide their mission and specific areas of work for the next few years, along with how they should best be structured to achieve their goals. As follow up, we helped them write their strategic plan to be finalized at their annual meeting.

The Maine Nutrition Network is a collaborative of public and private partners that coordinates nutrition and physical activity initiatives and contributes to policies and environments that improve the health of Maine people. We were hired to facilitate the Network's annual meeting of about 100 people - in order to engage strategic stakeholders and partners in a discussion about the future of the Network. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

As the representative voice of optometry in Maine, the Maine Optometric Association advances the quality and availability of eye, vision, and related health care in Maine. We have been hired to facilitate a meeting among members to develop organizational priority focus areas and an action plan for the next few years. 

The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) hired us to facilitate a discussion among the MOFGA board of directors and the board of directors of MOFGA Certification Services, LLC, the wholly-owned subsidiary of MOFGA that certifies organic farmers on behalf of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) is the oldest and largest state organic organization in the country. Each year, volunteers and professionals moderate panel discussions at the Farmer to Farmer Conference put on by MOFGA. We were hired to provide training for volunteer moderators. Several Good Group Decisions Associates then joined other volunteers in facilitating panel discussions at the 2010 conference. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

The organization, which is dedicated to providing professional education and services for the osteopathic profession to ensure the quality of osteopathic care to the people of Maine, hired us to facilitate a full-day retreat of the Board of Directors focusing on strategic planning. Following the retreat, we prepared a report.

The Maine Philanthropy Center, a regional association of grantmakers working together to promote philanthropy and to increase its impact in Maine, is convening a conference entitled “Improving Food Access with Local Food”. We have been hired to help plan the day and help facilitate audience participation.

The Maine Primary Care Association works to strengthen and sustain Maine’s Primary Care Safety Net, providing high quality health care to underserved populations in Maine. We facilitated a board retreat, and prepared a complete meeting report that will serve as the basis of a strategic plan.

For over 25 years, the Maine Primary Care Association has worked to strengthen and sustain Maine’s Primary Care Safety Net. We were hired to facilitate two meetings among representatives of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) to discuss how to more effectively communicate medical information. We also prepared reports of each of the meetings.

The Maine Society of Land Surveyors is a professional association working to enhance and protect the profession of land surveying. We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning in conjunction with their annual meeting. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

We were hired to offer a training session on Advanced Facilitation at the five-day National Training Workshop of the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) in Washington, DC. Maine and New Hampshire business leaders, town and city officials, state legislators, and staffers from the U.S. Congressional delegation came together at this gathering to discuss advocacy for rail service through western Maine, New Hampshire, and into Canada. We were hired to plan and facilitate an Open Space-based meeting in which the group determined the most pressing issues, explored them in breakout sessions, and then collaborated as an entire group on next steps. We also prepared summary notes. Leigh Tillman served as lead facilitator.

The Western Maine Sustainable Development Collaborative convened a regional conference on April 29,2004 in Farmington to explore opportunities for sustainable development and promote an asset-based approach. The Collaborative hired us to moderate the conference and prepare a summary report.

Four organizations, Coastal Enterprises, Inc., Maine Center for Economic Policy, Mountain Counties Heritage Network, and the Western Mountains Alliance, joined together "to harness and encourage multiple efforts to achieve regional sustainable development that balances economic, environmental, and community values." For over two years, Craig facilitated their regular, half-day meetings.

The Androscoggin Land Trust is dedicated to protecting, through land conservation and stewardship, the important natural areas, traditional landscapes, and outdoor experience along the central Androscoggin River corridor. We were hired to facilitate a full day retreat of the board of directors to assess the current organizational capacity and environmental trends, develop strategic goals, and refine the organization’s mission. In addition to facilitating the meeting, we also prepared a complete report that will serve as the basis for a strategic plan.

The Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust (BTLT) preserves acreage of ecological, agricultural and aesthetic importance in the neighboring towns of Brunswick and Topsham. BTLT hired us to facilitate a full day board retreat focused on the future of Crystal Spring Farm, a working farm owned by BTLT that raises vegetables and livestock, maintains recreational trails, and hosts a farmers' market on 320 acres. We also prepared a full report of the meeting.

Since 1985, the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust has preserved more than 1,100 acres in the neighboring towns of Brunswick and Topsham in an effort to protect properties with true ecological, agricultural and aesthetic importance. With support from the Maine Department of Agriculture, we were hired to facilitate an outreach meeting among farmers and neighbors.

The Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust teamed up with the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust on a long term project to help improve sustainability of local agriculture in the Merrymeeting Bay Region. We were hired to facilitate a roundtable meeting that brought together regional stakeholders to gather information, begin to identify solutions, and develop a network. We also prepared a complete report of the meeting.

The Casco Bay Estuary Partnership (CBEP) is a collaborative effort of people and organizations interested in protecting and restoring Casco Bay, on the southern coast of Maine. CBEP hired us to help plan and facilitate a two-day Board retreat to establish short-term priorities, prepare for long-term strategic planning, and build enthusiasm and renewed commitment among the Board. We teamed up with Ann Gosline of Gosline & Reitman for this project.

Craig was hired to facilitate a meeting among a group of engaged organizations and businesses with an interest in addressing climate change issues, to help establish objectives for their work together. We prepared a summary report which included next steps.

The Land Use Planning Commission (LUPC, formerly the Land Use Regulation Commission, or LURC) has jurisdiction over Maine’s unorganized territories, an area of 10.4 million acres - roughly half the size of the state. LUPC has hired us to conduct three meetings of recreational lodging stakeholders to provide input on new ways that recreational lodging might be regulated in the unorganized territories. In addition to planning and facilitating the meetings, we will also prepare complete reports.

The Mahoosuc Land Trust protects and conserves land and traditional land uses surrounding the Mahoosuc Mountains of central Oxford County, Maine, and eastern Coos County, New Hampshire. We have been hired to facilitate a strategic planning retreat among members of the board.

Maine Audubon works to conserve Maine’s wildlife and wildlife habitat by engaging people of all ages in education, conservation and action. We were hired to facilitate a two-day strategic planning retreat for the board and staff. This was follow-up on work we did to help Maine Audubon refine brand identity.

The Maine Grain Alliance oversees The KNEADING Conference, held annually in Skowhegan, which brings together farmers, bakers, and wood-fired oven enthusiasts. Building on our previous work with the steering committee of The KNEADING Conference, we were hired to help the Maine Grain Alliance with a series of strategic planning meetings. As a result of this work, we prepared a draft strategic plan.

The Maine Housing and Building Materials Exchange benefits low income families and the environment by providing new and reusable building materials at an affordable price. They hired us to facilitate two half-day meetings of the board of directors which resulted in a written strategic plan.

Each year, volunteers and professionals moderate panel discussions at the Farmer to Farmer Conference put on by MOFGA. We were hired to provide training for volunteer moderators. The Energy Division of the Maine Public Utilities Commission promotes the more efficient use of electricity statewide through Efficiency Maine and the Maine State Energy Program. They hired us to facilitate a full day staff retreat and help them develop a resulting strategic plan.

Based at the University of Maine, Maine Sea Grant is part of a network of Sea Grant programs throughout the coastal and Great Lakes states, sponsoring scientific research and marine workforce development focused on Maine's coastal communities. The Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society explores, develops and promotes agricultural systems and practices that allow Maine farmers to retain a greater share of consumer expenditures for farm products. Despite the growing number of green building practitioners, the actual transformation of Maine’s built environment towards improved energy efficiency is not happening fast enough. This is the challenge that Mid-Coast Magnet, a non-profit based in Rockland/Camden, confronted at the statewide Built Energy Forum in Augusta. We were hired to facilitate the break-out sessions of the conference. We also prepared the conference report.

The Northern Forest Canoe Trail is a 700-mile wilderness waterway in New York, Vermont, Quebec, New Hampshire and Maine. We were hired to work with businesses along the Maine section of the trail to design and develop packages for tourists, including specific itineraries. This project is supported by a federal Rural Business Enterprise Grant (RBEG) to promote economic development in the Northern Forest.

The Northern Forest Center convened a two-day conference to advance recommendations of the sustainable economy initiative. One hundred people from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York convened to develop consensus on top-priority activities to advance the Northern Forest economy in a sustainable manner. We were hired to facilitate the Regional Coordination and Advocacy Work Group.

The Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association is a non-profit land trust and advocacy group of 550 member families that has been working since 1969 on conservation and restoration of the natural and historic heritage of the Sheepscot Watershed in  midcoast Maine. We were hired to facilitate a process to help the board make an important decision.

The Maine Field Office of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hired us to facilitate a series of three open house sessions on lynx trapping in Presque Isle, Orono, and Gorham, Maine, for members of the public to learn about the permit process, exchange information on techniques to avoid incidental trapping of lynx, and provide feedback on assessments and plans. Leigh Tillman served as lead facilitator.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) works with a variety of entities, agencies, and private landowners to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats. USFWS has hired us to provide organizational development consulting and meeting facilitation services for the Ecological Services Program staff of the Northeast Regional Office, located in Hadley, Massachusetts.

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension puts university research to work in homes, businesses, farms, and communities throughout Maine, providing education and practical solutions for agriculture, natural resources, economic opportunity, and lifelong wellness. Craig has been hired to facilitate three sessions at the two-day Annual Organizational meeting for Cooperative Extension staff. Topics will cover strategic planning and practical ideas for handling challenges in group situations.

Since 1980, Arts Are Elementary (AAE) has brought visual artists, writers and performers into the Brunswick elementary schools, reaching all children in grades one through five with fun, inspiring models and opportunities for creative expression. We were hired to facilitate a half-day meeting to help the organization make decisions about its future. Leigh Tillman served as lead facilitator.

The CIEE Work & Travel USA Program supports more than 10,000 students to find jobs across the U.S. every year. We were hired to facilitate a training session and discussion among staff from various departments to help clarify roles and protocols.

Educate Maine, created by the merger of the Maine Coalition for Excellence in Education and the Maine Compact for Higher Education, champions increased education attainment and college and career readiness. We were hired to facilitate a board retreat to discuss key education challenges and opportunities and make plans for the organization’s top strategic objectives. We also conducted interviews with individual board members and prepared a brief report in advance of the meeting.

The Educate Maine Computer Science and Information Technology Initiative (CS-IT) is a statewide effort to double the number of computer science Bachelors degree graduates between now and 2016. Business leaders have gathered into seven teams to work on various projects in support of this goal. We were hired to facilitate a meeting among all seven teams in order to coordinate their efforts.

The Environmental Education Funders Collaborative (EEFC) is an informal collaborative of funders in the San Francisco Bay Area that develops avenues for sharing and partnering with the many stakeholders in the field of environmental and science education. We were hired to plan and facilitate a full-day conference of environmental educators and funders in San Francisco, CA.

Herring Gut Learning Center is dedicated to educating students, teachers and the public about Maine's marine resources through aquaculture, environmental studies and research opportunities. We were hired to interview each member of the board, prepare a report of findings, and lead a board discussion about the Center’s future. We also prepared a complete report of the board discussion.

We were hired to work with the the superintendent, principals, assistant principals, and business managers of the Ipswich (MA) Public Schools to help identify issues and establish roles and responsibilities for this site-based management school district of about 2000 students.

Kieve-WavusEducation, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising the aspirations of young people through summer camp programs in Maine. For the past few years, Kieve-Wavus has offered veterans a stress-free weeklong program called Veterans’ Family Camp. The Board and Staff hired us to facilitate a retreat to discuss and decide the future strategic direction of this valuable program. We also prepared a complete report of the meeting.

This newly formed organization, a merger of Camp Kieve and Wavus Camps, held its first board meeting over two days on the shores of Damariscotta Lake. We were hired to plan the agenda, facilitate the meetings, and prepare meeting reports.

Kieve-Wavus offers summer camps on the shores of beautiful Damariscotta Lake in Nobleboro and year-round experiential programs for youth and adults in Maine and beyond. We were hired to facilitate a process to develop a long-range plan for the camps and programs, including a survey of board and staff and a facilitated 2-day retreat. We also prepared a report of findings from the survey, a report of the retreat, and a draft long-range plan.

L/A Arts increases awareness, appreciation and support of the arts in the Lewiston-Auburn area by offering programs in education, performance and community service. We were hired to facilitate a full day retreat of the staff and board focused on strategic planning.

Senior administrative staff of this 1800-student High School in Massachusetts came for a weekend retreat to Camp Kieve on the shores of Damariscotta Lake. They are organizing into five distinct "small schools" and thus needed to work out many details about how the five headmasters will work collaboratively and independently. We facilitated the meeting and wrote the meeting report; a documentation of their new agreements. The Kieve team-building staff also helped them build trust and improve communication skills, making full use of Kieve's "outdoor classrooms."

The Lewiston Public Schools serve nearly 5,000 students in nine community schools in the city of Lewiston, Maine (population about 35,000). We were hired to facilitate a workshop among school committee members and school department directors and managers to build shared understanding and general consensus on how to handle student discipline issues. We also provided a complete report of the workshop.

Lincoln Academy, an independent secondary school in Newcastle, Maine, and Kieve-Wavus, an 85-year old experiential education and leadership organization in Nobleboro, Maine, have established a Task Force to explore possibilities for an educational collaboration. To help ensure a fair and efficient process, we were hired to facilitate the work of the Task Force.

We were hired by two Maine school districts, the Machias School District and School Administrative District #37, to facilitate a series of meetings and try to broker an agreement to jointly govern a regional High School.

On beautiful Mount Desert Island we spent a day with the board of directors of the Maine Assembly on School-Based Health Care. We helped the group decide their strategic priorities for the next five years and create a vision for school-based health centers, literally, on a huge 4’x8’ piece of paper!

The goal of the Maine Assembly on School-based Health Care (MeASBHC) is to improve children’s success by keeping them healthy, in school and ready to learn. MeASBHC supports the development and operations of school based health care services to accomplish this goal. We have worked with them before and they recently hired us again to help them survey stakeholders and finalize their strategic plan.

Maine Maritime Academy is a small public college of engineering, management, science, and transportation located in Castine on the coast of Maine. We were hired by the Corning School for Ocean Studies at Maine Maritime Academy to help the faculty identify future changes to the curriculum.

The Maine School Garden Network (MSGN) is a group of committed individuals who promote and support educational gardens for youth and encourage school programs that teach healthy eating and environmental stewardship. We were hired to help plan and facilitate a full-day meeting, comprised of a broad stakeholder input discussion in the morning followed by a MSGN Advisory Board meeting in the afternoon where board members reflected on input received and made decisions about MSGN’s future. The MEA Benefits Trust administers health insurance and other benefits for MaineEducationAssociation. We have been hired to facilitate a full day retreat of the Board of Trustees to work on strategic planning and related issues. We are also conducting advance interviews with each of the trustees.

In various capacities, including volunteer Board Chair, Craig has served as a consultant to the Merriconeag Waldorf School parents, faculty, and board members on issues including the school's overall growth and development and specific projects.

Located in Freeport, Merriconeag is Maine’s largest Waldorf school, offering pre-K through high school education to almost 300 students. We were hired to work with teachers and parents on organizational development issues.

We were hired to help plan and facilitate the three-day annual conference of the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) in Oakland, California. We also helped plan and facilitate a special Funders Forum of about 100 organizations that invest in environmental education. NAAEE supports environmental educators in the US, Canada, and Mexico with professional development, guidelines for excellence, networking, and advocacy.

We were hired to offer a training session on Advanced Facilitation at the five-day National Training Workshop of the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) in Washington, DC. NAAEE supports environmental educators in the US, Canada, and Mexico with professional development, guidelines for excellence, networking, and advocacy.

The Pentucket Regional School District, serving the towns of Groveland, Merrimac and West Newbury, Massachusetts, hired us to facilitate a four-hour meeting of the school committee where we developed annual priorities and operating guidelines. In addition, they hired us to work with the administrative team consisting of the superintendent and six principals, to refine roles and responsibilities.

The Portland Partnership hired us to work with teachers and administrators of Adams Elementary School to improve meeting efficiency.

The Portland Symphony Orchestra recognizes and takes seriously its role as a leading community educator about orchestral music. To be most effective, the orchestra wanted to nurture collaborative relationships with music educators and organizational partners from throughout the community. We were hired to facilitate a Music Educators and Organizational Partners Forum to brainstorm and prioritize ideas.

Providence Service Corporation of Maine, also known as Providence of Maine, is an organization specializing in nonresidential community-based services. We were hired to facilitate a focus group discussion among high school educators to explore potential opportunities for collaboration in light of new federal funding.

RSU 16 encompasses the towns of Mechanic Falls, Minot, and Poland, Maine. We were hired to plan and facilitate a public input and strategic planning process to help guide RSU 16 education planning and build community among citizens, parents, students, teachers, town leaders, and the school board. We conducted two surveys, facilitated a series of input gathering meetings, and prepared a Report of Findings. We also facilitated a series of school board workshops and prepared a Draft Strategic Plan based on the results of the process.

Faced with projected multi-year budget constraints, this central Maine school district hired us to facilitate a large public input meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to explain the situation, and gather public comment on potential closures and/or reorganization of buildings and schools.

The brand-new school board for RSU 24 hired us to facilitate a kick-off retreat. Given the recent consolidation of three school districts (Ellsworth; School Union 92, which includes Lamoine, Hancock, Mariaville, Eastbrook, and Waltham; and School Union 96, which includes Franklin, Gouldsboro, Sorrento, Steuben, Sullivan and Winter Harbor) into one, the board wanted to get off on the right foot. We discussed everything from how board members interact with each other to initial goals for the new district. After the meeting, we prepared a report.

The town of Winslow, Maine has aging public schools and needed to make some hard decisions about which to close and how to consolidate. The School Committee convened a large public forum to present four potential options and provide townspeople a chance to ask questions and make comments. Hired by School Union 52 (Winslow, China, Vassalboro), we facilitated the discussion, administered a straw poll during the meeting, and wrote a report which included a summmary of all the questions and comments.

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension hired us to plan and facilitate two meetings to help Cooperative Extension organize their SNAP-Ed program: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance ProgramEducation, which helps low-income individuals make healthy food choices. Leigh Tillman served as lead facilitator.

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension puts university research to work in homes, businesses, farms, and communities throughout Maine, providing education and practical solutions for agriculture, natural resources, economic opportunity, and lifelong wellness. Craig has been hired to facilitate three sessions at the two-day Annual Organizational meeting for Cooperative Extension staff. Topics will cover strategic planning and practical ideas for handling challenges in group situations.

The Paper Surface Science Program at the University of Maine seeks to develop knowledge about paper surface treatment processes and structure-performance relationships. The Program trains graduate students in performing scientific research on projects of value to sponsoring industries. We were hired to help plan and facilitate a meeting among key stakeholders to develop goals and plans for the future of the program. We also prepared a complete report of the meeting.

The Colleges of Arts and Sciences at the University of New England hired us to work on organizational issues within a particular department. Our work involved individual interviews followed by a full-day retreat.

Founded in 1978, with campuses in Portland and Biddeford, the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine trains students to become osteopathic physicians. The Dean of the College convened a conclave among all the faculty to discuss the future of the College. We were hired to facilitate and provide a complete report of the conclave. In addition to discussing strategic issues we also did some team building.

The Westbrook School Department hired us to help develop a strategic plan. Working with the school board and the newly-appointed superintendent over a six-month period, we managed a process that included substantial community input, such as focus group meetings and a community-wide survey.

Acadia Insurance specializes in commercial property casualty insurance programs for small and midsize businesses throughout New England and New York State. We were hired to facilitate a Senior Management Team retreat to explore company culture.

At Camp Kieve on the shores of Damariscotta Lake, we worked in "outdoor classrooms" with the senior management team of Bangor Hydro to develop team skills and appreciation of different personality styles.

Their Topsham, Maine office hired us to help develop a strategic vision for the next 3-5 years.

Based in Freeport, Maine, Taggart Construction supports, promotes, and design buildings for high performance and sustainability. They hired us to work with the company president and senior management to develop a new strategic plan.

Thornton Oaks, a retirement community in Brunswick, Maine, is a community with a mix of private homes and apartments. We were hired to design and conduct focus group sessions with current and potential residents to help Thornton Oaks plan for the future.

Transformit is a Maine-based company that produces and installs interior tension fabric structures for companies and events around the globe, and is known as the artistic and technical leader in tension-fabric structures. They hired us to facilitate a full-day retreat of managers designed to improve team effectiveness and build leadership capacity.

Founded in 1978, Vreeland Marketing & Design in Yarmouth offers a full range of marketing, creative, and public relations services to clients worldwide. Vreeland hired us to help them refine their strategic direction. The process included confidential staff interviews and a full day staff retreat with follow-up.

The City of Bath Planning Department hired us to facilitate a public forum at which residents discussed desired characteristics of potential new downtown buildings. As part of the forum, images of downtown buildings were displayed around the room and participants "voted" for their favorites. We also prepared a report of the meeting to assist property owners and policy makers as they make future decisions about downtown development.

Before revising its comprehensive plan, the Town of Bowdoinham wanted first to establish a unified vision for the town. We were hired to facilitate public input meetings and analyze survey data, and then work with the Comprehensive Planning Committee to establish a written vision statement.

The directors of both the Brunswick Economic Development Corporation and Topsham Development, Inc. convened a workshop on design and impact issues, opportunities, and challenges presented by the potential development of a midcoast regional business park. Through the workshop, the two organizations solicited public comments and ideas regarding how design standards might be used to manage appearance, community and environmental impacts, and even what sorts of business tenants should be targeted to align with such standards. We were hired to facilitate the workshop and prepare a report.

The Elementary School Building Committee was charged by the Town Council to develop recommendations on the location and design of a new elementary school. We were hired by the Brunswick Office of Superintendent of Schools to facilitate meetings of the Committee and prepare summary reports of each meeting.

This statewide council, mandated by the State Legislature to represent consumers of mental and behavioral health services, hired us to facilitate a full day conference focused on ethics and team building. The Consumer Council System of Maine has teamed up with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) to convene a series of meetings of peer and family support groups for people with mental and behavioral health challenges. The purpose of the meetings is to explore collaboration opportunities. We have been hired to help plan and facilitate the meetings and prepare a complete report.

In response to a recent legislative mandate, a coalition of organizations, including the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, the Maine Center for Economic Policy, the Muskie School of USM, and the DHHS Office of Elder Services, hired us to facilitate dialogue among health care providers, workers, and consumers. Our objective was to find common ground among these interests and develop consensus recommendations on the nature of a statewide registry of direct care workers.

The Downeast District Coordinating Council for Public Health is overseeing implementation of a federal Community Transformation Grant which will help Washington and Hancock Counties expand efforts in tobacco-free, active living, healthy eating, quality clinical preventive services, and healthy and safe physical environments. We have been hired to help plan and facilitate a series of meetings of the Community Transformation Grant Oversight Committee, to develop a shared understanding and collaborative approach for implementing the grant. Leigh Tillman is serving as lead facilitator.

The Elder Justice Partners is a partnership of 17 state government and non-profit agencies working to protect Maine seniors. Elder Justice Partners convened a day-long summit of leaders working in the area of elder abuse to highlight the current state of elder abuse outreach and prosecution and plan for the future of elder abuse work in Maine. We were hired to facilitate and prepare a complete report of the summit.

The Fryeburg Selectmen hired us to facilitate two public workshops to introduce and clarify proposals to increase citizen participation in Town Meetings and in voting on town issues. During the workshops, held on two consecutive evenings, the community was encouraged to ask the Selectmen questions and offer their comments on the proposals.

The Gulf of Maine Ocean Observing System is a national pilot program designed to bring hourly oceanographic data from the Gulf of Maine to all those who need it. GoMOOS is a regional consortium of interests and disciplines based in Portland, Maine. They hired us to help the board decide how to evolve most effectively. We facilitated a full-day retreat of government agency officials and scientists and prepared the meeting report.

This Governor-appointed Council hired us to plan and facilitate a highly interactive one-day retreat. The group affirmed their mission and determined specific goals and actions to make them more effective. We also prepared a written report of the meeting.

We were hired by the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program to facilitate a series of community listening sessions designed to provide input for establishing a grassroots agenda for elder advocacy.

The Greater Portland Transit District METRO provides bus service to over a million riders every year in Portland, Westbrook, Falmouth, and South Portland. We were hired to plan and facilitate a strategic planning meeting of the METRO Board, comprised of City and Town Council members of Portland, Westbrook, and Falmouth, to update the mission, set goals, and build teamwork.

We were hired to provide four facilitators for the HRSA Community Strategic Partnership Conference in Portland, Maine in October. This was a gathering of practitioners from across New England to collaborate on ways to improve delivery of rural healthcare.

The federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) partnered with the Maine Primary Care Association and the Maine Center for Disease Control to hold a strategic partnership meeting focused on connecting specialists with rural health providers to address Hepatitis C. They hired us to facilitate a full day meeting of these providers to discuss how to improve connections with specialist consultants regarding the disease. The City of Portland received a significant Healthy Maine Partnership grant from the Maine Center for Disease Control to provide public health and related services. We were hired to facilitate a board retreat to discuss how Healthy Portland will transition into a larger initiative. We also prepared a complete report of the meeting.

The Maine Administrators of Services for Children with Disabilities (MADSEC) believes in, and advocates for, the right of all students to receive a free and appropriate public education. As a service to members, they provide several professional growth opportunities and they hired us to deliver a workshop for members on the topic of communications with a focus on e-mail.

We were hired by the Maine Center for Disease Control (formerly the Bureau of Public Health) and the Muskie School for Public Service to facilitate four break-out sessions for a full-day, statewide conference on Pandemic Flu Planning for Communities.

The Maine Center for Disease Control (CDC) issued an RFP for statewide delivery of public health services. They convened a bidders conference in Augusta and asked Good Group Decisions to provide four facilitators for regional break-out sessions.

We were hired to provide several facilitators for a statewide conference designed to develop a plan to vaccinate Maine residents against the H1N1 virus, also known as Swine Flu.

We were hired by the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to facilitate a meeting of the Childhood Obesity Stakeholder Group, a cooperative of Maine State agencies and nonprofit organizations united to fight the obesity epidemic in children. The purpose of the meeting was to help the group make decisions about developing grant-funded programs.

The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) administers the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps, a group of volunteer medical professionals that are trained and equipped to deal with public health emergencies. We were hired to facilitate a meeting of Maine's Medical Reserve Corps Statewide Collaborative to help analyze needs gaps in their work with partners such as hospitals, emergency management agencies, and others. 

Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) administers the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps, a group of volunteer medical professionals that are trained and equipped to deal with public health emergencies. There are four Medical Reserve Corps in Maine and we were hired to help organize a Statewide Advisory Group made up of representatives from each Corps. We facilitated two meetings of the advisory group and prepared complete reports of each. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) develops and delivers services to preserve, protect and promote the health and well-being of the citizens of Maine. We were hired to facilitate a full-day meeting to explore and refine foodborne illness outbreak response protocols. We also provided a full report of the meeting. Leigh Tillman served as lead facilitator.

Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Public Health Emergency Preparedness Unit reviews vulnerabilities in areas such as epidemiology, emergency medical services, weather services, and much more. We facilitated a meeting of over 50 statewide stakeholders to discuss and score the relative risks of potential hazardous events and situations in Maine. We also prepared a Complete Report of the meeting which included discussion comments as well as the scoring data for all 35 different situations.

We planned and facilitated a full-day retreat of the Maine County Commissioner's Association which consists of County Commissioners and Administrators from thoughout Maine. The retreat resulted in several key decisions about the organization's strategic direction and specific tasks to be done.

The Maine Department of Agriculture engages in several activities that overlap with the Maine Farmland Trust. We were hired to facilitate a full-day retreat of leaders from these two organizations to discuss how to coordinate activities most effectively.

As part of the state rule making process, the Maine Department of Agriculture hired us to facilitate a meeting among stakeholders to discuss the Voluntary Municipal Farm Support Program. In addition to facilitating the meeting, we prepared a complete report.

The Maine Department of Agriculture hired us to facilitate two meetings, one in Topsham and one in Farmington, to gather input from farmers, land owners, land trusts, and municipal officials, on the pros and cons of mapping farms on regional maps. This information is helpful to the Department as they design some new programs. We also prepared complete reports of the two meetings. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services was awarded a grant to develop a statewide Oral Health Improvement Plan in collaboration with stakeholders ranging from regulators to providers. We were sub-contracted by Medical Care Development to facilitate meetings of Maine's Oral Health Advisory Committee, to facilitate a statewide conference, and to write the resulting plan.

In moving to a system of Managed Care for mental health and substance abuse treatment services, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services wanted to be sure and hear from stakeholders about what was working well and what should be improved. In collaboration with the Muskie School for Public Service, we were asked to facilitate and report on a series of 14 public meetings designed to gather input. We also established a website for the benefit of the stakeholders.

Craig facilitated a series of meetings for the Bureau of Employment Services designed to develop common understanding of how employment services are currently funded, develop recommendations for bridging short term gaps, and develop enduring principles useful for future budgeting decisions.

We were hired to facilitate meetings of the transit subcommittee of the Gateway 1 Corridor planning project. We helped the committee develop an RFP for the study of transit options throughout the Route 1 corridor from Brunswick to Prospect, Maine.

The Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) coordinates the State of Maine's programs of emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation. MEMA hired us to facilitate two meetings of service providers and stakeholders to discuss and achieve consensus on how people with special needs would be best accommodated in shelters during emergency situations.

Made up of representatives from each of Maine’s 39 hospitals, the Maine Infection Prevention Collaborative (MIPC) seeks to prevent and control health care associated infections. We were hired to facilitate regular 5-hour meetings of the Collaborative. The MIPC makes decisions by consensus.

At beautiful Maple Hill Farm in Hallowell, we facilitated a full day conference for the members of the Maine Nutrition Network. About a hundred people attended. We helped the group decide their mission and specific areas of work for the next few years, along with how they should best be structured to achieve their goals. As follow up, we helped them write their strategic plan to be finalized at their annual meeting.

The Maine Nutrition Network is a collaborative of public and private partners that coordinates nutrition and physical activity initiatives and contributes to policies and environments that improve the health of Maine people. We were hired to facilitate the Network's annual meeting of about 100 people - in order to engage strategic stakeholders and partners in a discussion about the future of the Network. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

The Energy Division of the Maine Public Utilities Commission promotes the more efficient use of electricity statewide through Efficiency Maine and the Maine State Energy Program. They hired us to facilitate a full day staff retreat and help them develop a resulting strategic plan.

To make sure that all views were heard in a respectful, focused manner, the State Planning Office hired us to moderate a formal public hearing on a proposed rule under Maine's Informed Growth Act.

The State Planning Office (SPO) reviews the comprehensive land use plans of Maine municipalities and was on the verge of proposing a new way for it to be done. Before changes were actually made, SPO wanted to hear from stakeholders around the state. They hired us to facilitate a series of meetings and prepare a report of findings. They also hired us to facilitate a public hearing on proposed rule changes. We established a website specifically designed to inform stakeholders about the rule-changing process and solicit their comments.

The Land Use Team of the State Planning Office hired us for a three-hour session focused on personality type assessment and how the team can work together most effectively.

The Governor hosted a Jobs Summit in February and we agreed to provide volunteer facilitation services for this important full-day conference in Augusta.

The federally-mandated Maine Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) is responsible for developing, monitoring, and evaluating the State Plan for Independent Living and communicating with the State Rehabilitation Council. As part of our apprenticeship program, we facilitated a meeting among members of the SILC to develop a three-year communications plan. Leigh Tillman served as lead facilitator.

The Manchester Health Department (MHD) provides public health services to the large, culturally diverse city of Manchester, New Hampshire (pop. 110,000). We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning process to help the MHD develop strategic goals and a framework for implementation. In addition to facilitating strategic planning meetings, we conducted stakeholder interviews and employee focus groups, and prepared a written final draft of the strategic plan.

We were hired by the Integrated Core Injury Prevention and Control Program of the Muskie School of the University of Southern Maine to facilitate a full-day, statewide conference on how to reduce the misuse of perscription drugs. We provided multiple facilitators for the day and also prepared a report of the conference.

The Natural Resource-based Industries Steering Committee, appointed by Governor Baldacci, hired us to staff a Working Group of state agency managers and develop a methodology for continued assessment of Maine's natural resource-based industries. We prepared an indicators report designed to inform policy makers about the state of these industries and where they might be headed. The report was published December 9th,2004.

The Office of Elder Services (OES) of the state of Maine Department of Health and Human Services promotes programs and services for older adults, their families and for people with disabilities. OES hired us to facilitate a full day meeting between OES staff and the leadership of Maine’s five Area Agencies on Aging. The group discussed ways to work most effectively together and identified shared goals for the future. In addition to facilitating the meeting we prepared a complete report.

The Pentucket Regional School District, serving the towns of Groveland, Merrimac and West Newbury, Massachusetts, hired us to facilitate a four-hour meeting of the school committee where we developed annual priorities and operating guidelines. In addition, they hired us to work with the administrative team consisting of the superintendent and six principals, to refine roles and responsibilities.

PACTS works to improve the coordination of transportation planning and investment decisions by state, municipal and public transportation organizations in the Portland, Maine region (including 18 towns from Biddeford to Brunswick). We were hired to facilitate a meeting of the PACTS Policy Committee to help establish consensus on future size and responsibilities of committees and on future sub-regional and elected official representation.

We were hired to facilitate a meeting among four PACTS Committees (Policy, Executive, Planning and Transit), to start the process of preparing the 2014 update to the "Destination Tomorrow" regional transportation plan. We were hired to facilitate an input-gathering meeting among elected officials representing Cape Elizabeth, Portland, and South Portland on the Regional Transportation Plan (called “Destination Tomorrow”). We also provided a complete report of the meeting.

The Public Health Division of the City of Portland hired us to help them develop a strategic plan. We interviewed key stakeholders and facilitated a series of management meetings that resulted in a prioritized list of activities to be done over the next three years. The plan contains specific performance measures with data presented graphically.

The Quality Review Committee is a state-chartered group with responsibilities to review the quality of work that Elder Independence of Maine delivers to about 3,000 consumers of home-based care services throughout Maine. They hired us to facilitate a strategic planning session to re-consider their overall mission and scope of work.

The Quality Review Council is established by state law to review homecare services provided by Elder Independence of Maine. The Council reviews quality reports and also works on short-term, high priority projects to improve home care. We were retained to facilitate all regular meetings of the Council.

Faced with projected multi-year budget constraints, this central Maine school district hired us to facilitate a large public input meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to explain the situation, and gather public comment on potential closures and/or reorganization of buildings and schools.

The brand-new school board for RSU 24 hired us to facilitate a kick-off retreat. Given the recent consolidation of three school districts (Ellsworth; School Union 92, which includes Lamoine, Hancock, Mariaville, Eastbrook, and Waltham; and School Union 96, which includes Franklin, Gouldsboro, Sorrento, Steuben, Sullivan and Winter Harbor) into one, the board wanted to get off on the right foot. We discussed everything from how board members interact with each other to initial goals for the new district. After the meeting, we prepared a report.

The City of Rockland, Maine has recently taken ownership of the MacDougal School and they hired us to facilitate a public meeting to solicit input on how best to use the school. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

The town of Winslow, Maine has aging public schools and needed to make some hard decisions about which to close and how to consolidate. The School Committee convened a large public forum to present four potential options and provide townspeople a chance to ask questions and make comments. Hired by School Union 52 (Winslow, China, Vassalboro), we facilitated the discussion, administered a straw poll during the meeting, and wrote a report which included a summmary of all the questions and comments.

The City Council of South Portland, Maine, hired us to facilitate a three-hour workshop during which Council members shared perspectives on long-term objectives for the City and developed consensus on one-year goals for the City Council.

Established by the Maine State Legislature to develop and implement a unified correctional system, the State Board of Corrections hired us to facilitate a full day retreat focused on strategic objectives and roles of board, staff, working groups, and focus groups.

The directors of both the Brunswick Economic Development Corporation and Topsham Development, Inc. convened a workshop on design and impact issues, opportunities, and challenges presented by the potential development of a midcoast regional business park. Through the workshop, the two organizations solicited public comments and ideas regarding how design standards might be used to manage appearance, community and environmental impacts, and even what sorts of business tenants should be targeted to align with such standards. We were hired to facilitate the workshop and prepare a report.

The Maine Field Office of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hired us to facilitate a series of three open house sessions on lynx trapping in Presque Isle, Orono, and Gorham, Maine, for members of the public to learn about the permit process, exchange information on techniques to avoid incidental trapping of lynx, and provide feedback on assessments and plans. Leigh Tillman served as lead facilitator.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) works with a variety of entities, agencies, and private landowners to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats. USFWS has hired us to provide organizational development consulting and meeting facilitation services for the Ecological Services Program staff of the Northeast Regional Office, located in Hadley, Massachusetts.

The City of Westbrook, ME, hired us to facilitate a community-wide visioning process. As a result of a series of fourteen meetings and a full day community visioning meeting, we drafted a vision statement to serve as the basis of Westbrook's updated comprehensive plan. We are also facilitating meetings of the comprehensive plan task force and community input meetings for specific interests. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

The Westbrook School Department hired us to help develop a strategic plan. Working with the school board and the newly-appointed superintendent over a six-month period, we managed a process that included substantial community input, such as focus group meetings and a community-wide survey.

The Transportation Program of the York County Community Action Corporation promotes self-sufficiency by providing York County residents with a means to get to work and/or services and resources which otherwise would not be accessible. We facilitated the Annual Transportation Gathering, a half-day retreat where employees focused on improving how they work together as a team and serve their customers.

York County Community Action Corporation (YCCAC) delivers a range of social service, health, and educational programs to York County individuals and families living in poverty. We were hired to facilitate the beginnings of a strategic plan process, including a series of task force meetings with complete reports. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

The Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust (BTLT) preserves acreage of ecological, agricultural and aesthetic importance in the neighboring towns of Brunswick and Topsham. BTLT hired us to facilitate a full day board retreat focused on the future of Crystal Spring Farm, a working farm owned by BTLT that raises vegetables and livestock, maintains recreational trails, and hosts a farmers' market on 320 acres. We also prepared a full report of the meeting.

Since 1985, the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust has preserved more than 1,100 acres in the neighboring towns of Brunswick and Topsham in an effort to protect properties with true ecological, agricultural and aesthetic importance. With support from the Maine Department of Agriculture, we were hired to facilitate an outreach meeting among farmers and neighbors.

The Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust teamed up with the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust on a long term project to help improve sustainability of local agriculture in the Merrymeeting Bay Region. We were hired to facilitate a roundtable meeting that brought together regional stakeholders to gather information, begin to identify solutions, and develop a network. We also prepared a complete report of the meeting.

Good Food for Lewiston is a collaborative working to develop a healthy community food system in Lewiston. We were hired to help plan for, and train volunteer facilitators for, a series of "Good Food Gatherings" which brought together community members to create and share a vision for a healthy food system.

The Gulf of Maine Research Institute convened ground fishermen from Cape Cod to the coastal Maine to discuss new, innovative ways to manage the fishery. With the hope of achieving consensus on recommendations to the New England Fisheries Management Council, we were hired to facilitate the discussions and prepare a report of conclusions.

The Maine Farmers' Market Convention hired us to provide a training session on conflict prevention, management, and resolution. The Maine Farmers' Market Convention is an annual event organized and presented by the Downeast Business Alliance. The 2011 convention was held in January in Belfast, Maine.

For the second year in a row we were hired to provide training in conflict management for the Maine Farmers' Market Convention. The convention was in Freeport on January 27 & 28,2012.

The Maine Farmers' Market Convention hired Craig to present a keynote talk on The Wisdom of Group Decisions. For the third year in a row Craig also provided a training session; this year's topic was strategic planning. The Maine Farmers' Market Convention is an annual event organized and presented by the Downeast Business Alliance. The 2013 convention was held at Point Lookout in beautiful Northport, Maine.

The Maine Grain Alliance is a nonprofit organization working to preserve and promote grain traditions. The Maine Grain Alliance oversees The KNEADING Conference, held annually in Skowhegan, which brings together farmers, bakers, and wood-fired oven enthusiasts. Building on our previous work with the steering committee of The KNEADING Conference, we were hired to help the Maine Grain Alliance with a series of strategic planning meetings. As a result of this work, we prepared a draft strategic plan.

The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) hired us to facilitate a discussion among the MOFGA board of directors and the board of directors of MOFGA Certification Services, LLC, the wholly-owned subsidiary of MOFGA that certifies organic farmers on behalf of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) is the oldest and largest state organic organization in the country. Each year, volunteers and professionals moderate panel discussions at the Farmer to Farmer Conference put on by MOFGA. We were hired to provide training for volunteer moderators. Several Good Group Decisions Associates then joined other volunteers in facilitating panel discussions at the 2010 conference. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

The Maine Philanthropy Center, a regional association of grantmakers working together to promote philanthropy and to increase its impact in Maine, is convening a conference entitled “Improving Food Access with Local Food”. We have been hired to help plan the day and help facilitate audience participation.

The Maine School Garden Network (MSGN) is a group of committed individuals who promote and support educational gardens for youth and encourage school programs that teach healthy eating and environmental stewardship. We were hired to help plan and facilitate a full-day meeting, comprised of a broad stakeholder input discussion in the morning followed by a MSGN Advisory Board meeting in the afternoon where board members reflected on input received and made decisions about MSGN’s future. We also prepared complete reports of both meetings. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

The Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society explores, develops and promotes agricultural systems and practices that allow Maine farmers to retain a greater share of consumer expenditures for farm products. We facilitated a half-day board retreat focused on strategic planning. In advance of the retreat, we interviewed each board member and prepared a report of the findings which informed the discussion around the future direction of the organization. Six months after the planning retreat, we facilitated a follow-up board retreat.

The Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society (MESAS) explores, develops and promotes agricultural systems and practices that allow Maine farmers to retain a greater share of consumer expenditures for farm products. As part of the MESAS "More Maine Meat" project, we were hired to facilitate a series of meetings among farmers, processors, distributors, government agencies, researchers, agricultural organizations, and consumers to identify key constraints and opportunities in Maine's sustainable meat industry.

Merrymeeting Permaculture and Transition is a group of individuals and organizations working to build environmental and economic resilience at the backyard and community levels. We were hired to facilitate a public meeting where participants could learn about each other's work and share ideas about how to inspire and support positive changes.

The Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program, a not-for-profit United Way agency committed to reducing hunger in the greater Brunswick area, hired us to facilitate a full-day strategic planning retreat and prepare a complete report.

The Spannocchia Foundation seeks to encourage global dialogue about sustaining cultural landscapes for future generations through the example of the Tenuta di Spannocchia, a centuries-old agricultural estate located about 12 miles southwest of Siena in central Tuscany, Italy. We were hired to facilitate a three-day strategic planning board retreat at the Castello di Spannocchia, located on the Tenuta.

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension hired us to plan and facilitate two meetings to help Cooperative Extension organize their SNAP-Ed program: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance ProgramEducation, which helps low-income individuals make healthy food choices. Leigh Tillman served as lead facilitator.

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension puts university research to work in homes, businesses, farms, and communities throughout Maine, providing education and practical solutions for agriculture, natural resources, economic opportunity, and lifelong wellness. Craig has been hired to facilitate three sessions at the two-day Annual Organizational meeting for Cooperative Extension staff. Topics will cover strategic planning and practical ideas for handling challenges in group situations.
