AARP (2009)
Using a unique approach to problem solving, AARP hired us to facilitate a meeting among stakeholders to discuss a proposed legislative bill (LD 1078) that would reorganize the delivery of state-supported long term care. Held at the State House in Augusta, the meeting included the Commissioner and other top officials from the Department of Health and Human Services, legislators, and representatives from several organizations with an interest in long term care.

The American Psychiatric Association Area One Council, representing psychiatrists in the six New England states as well as Canada’s Eastern provinces and Quebec, engaged us to facilitate two meetings at its spring conference in Boston. We also prepared reports of the meetings.

Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is a 60-bed facility providing nursing care, assisted living, and rehabilitation therapies. We were hired to help facilitate development of a strategic plan. The process included industry/competitor analysis, internal and external stakeholder interviews, a staff survey, and a series of facilitated strategy team meetings.
Blue Hill Center for Holistic Health (2004)
This brand new and ambitious board of directors hired Craig to run a kick-off board retreat at which the group made several decisions about how they will operate as a board and approved a draft vision statement for their organization. The board operates by consensus, so there was a fair amount of time devoted to learning consensus process and conflict management.

Since 1985, Common Ties Mental Health Services has promoted the health and wellness of citizens of Androscoggin County by providing programs to support recovery from physical, mental, and substance abuse illnesses. We have been hired to help plan and facilitate a strategic planning retreat for the staff. We will also prepare a draft Strategic Plan based on results of the retreat.

The Consumer Council System of Maine has teamed up with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) to convene a series of meetings of peer and family support groups for people with mental and behavioral health challenges. The purpose of the meetings is to explore collaboration opportunities. We have been hired to help plan and facilitate the meetings and prepare a complete report.

Since its founding in 2002, the Daniel Hanley Center for Health Leadership has worked to build a solid foundation of healthcare leadership for Maine’s future. We were hired to facilitate a full day conference, “Accelerating Clinical Information Sharing for Maine's Behavioral Health Provider Community” and several follow-up meetings.
DFD Russell Medical Centers (2008)
We facilitated a board retreat to develop a new three-year strategic plan for the DFD Russell Medical Centers (DFDRMC) in Leeds, Turner and Monmouth, an independent public/private partnership founded in 1975 to provide affordable and accessible health care to area residents.
Direct Health Care Worker Registry (2006)
In response to a recent legislative mandate, a coalition of organizations, including the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, the Maine Center for Economic Policy, the Muskie School of USM, and the DHHS Office of Elder Services, hired us to facilitate dialogue among health care providers, workers, and consumers. Our objective was to find common ground among these interests and develop consensus recommendations on the nature of a statewide registry of direct care workers.
Disease Management Collaboration (2008)
The Disease Management Practicum Group and the Daniel Hanley Center for Health Leadership, in collaboration with The Institute for Civic Leadership hired us to facilitate a half-day retreat to explore new ways of preventing and managing chronic disease in Maine.
Downeast District Coordinating Council for Public Health (2012 – 2013)
The Downeast District Coordinating Council for Public Health is overseeing implementation of a federal Community Transformation Grant which will help Washington and Hancock Counties expand efforts in tobacco-free, active living, healthy eating, quality clinical preventive services, and healthy and safe physical environments. We have been hired to help plan and facilitate a series of meetings of the Community Transformation Grant Oversight Committee, to develop a shared understanding and collaborative approach for implementing the grant. Leigh Tillman is serving as lead facilitator.

Eastport Health Care (2011)
Eastport Health Care is a FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center) providing the residents of Washington County with comprehensive medical, dental and mental health care. We were hired to plan and facilitate a one-day retreat of the Board of Directors to review the mission and vision and begin crafting a strategic plan for the next five years.

The Family Planning Association of Maine raises awareness of family planning issues and provides health care services to Mainers, especially people with limited or no income and those who are uninsured. We were hired to facilitate a full-day staff retreat to explore workplace culture and the Association's work in clinical settings. We also prepared a Complete Report of the retreat.

This Governor-appointed Council hired us to plan and facilitate a highly interactive one-day retreat. The group affirmed their mission and determined specific goals and actions to make them more effective. We also prepared a written report of the meeting.

Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) (2009-Fall)
We were hired to provide four facilitators for the HRSA Community Strategic Partnership Conference in Portland, Maine in October. This was a gathering of practitioners from across New England to collaborate on ways to improve delivery of rural healthcare.
Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) (2009-Summer)
The federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) partnered with the Maine Primary Care Association and the Maine Center for Disease Control to hold a strategic partnership meeting focused on connecting specialists with rural health providers to address Hepatitis C. They hired us to facilitate a full day meeting of these providers to discuss how to improve connections with specialist consultants regarding the disease. In addition to facilitating the meeting, we prepared a complete report.
HealthInfoNet (2010)
HealthInfoNet, a non-profit organization was established in 2006 to develop a statewide electronic health information exchange (HIE) for Maine. As a result, Maine is about to become one of the first states in the nation to develop a statewide HIE. We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning retreat for the Board of Directors.

On beautiful Mount Desert Island we spent a day with the board of directors of the Maine Assembly on School-Based Health Care. We helped the group decide their strategic priorities for the next five years and create a vision for school-based health centers, literally, on a huge 4’x8’ piece of paper!

Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) administers the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps, a group of volunteer medical professionals that are trained and equipped to deal with public health emergencies. There are four Medical Reserve Corps in Maine and we were hired to help organize a Statewide Advisory Group made up of representatives from each Corps. We facilitated two meetings of the advisory group and prepared complete reports of each. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.
Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention – Outbreak Response (2011)
Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) develops and delivers services to preserve, protect and promote the health and well-being of the citizens of Maine. We were hired to facilitate a full-day meeting to explore and refine foodborne illness outbreak response protocols. We also provided a full report of the meeting. Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention – Public Health Vulnerability Assessment (2012)
Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Public Health Emergency Preparedness Unit reviews vulnerabilities in areas such as epidemiology, emergency medical services, weather services, and much more. We facilitated a meeting of over 50 statewide stakeholders to discuss and score the relative risks of potential hazardous events and situations in Maine. We also prepared a Complete Report of the meeting which included discussion comments as well as the scoring data for all 35 different situations.

In March, the Maine Dental Association hosted the New England Dental Leadership Conference, a gathering of dentists from the six New England states that will focus on the question, “What will the practice of dentistry look like in 2020?” We were hired to facilitate this 3-day conference.
Maine Department of Health and Human Services (2005)
The Maine Department of Health and Human Services was awarded a grant to develop a statewide Oral Health Improvement Plan in collaboration with stakeholders ranging from regulators to providers. We were sub-contracted by Medical Care Development to facilitate meetings of Maine's Oral Health Advisory Committee, to facilitate a statewide conference, and to write the resulting plan.
Maine Department of Health and Human Services (2006)
In moving to a system of Managed Care for mental health and substance abuse treatment services, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services wanted to be sure and hear from stakeholders about what was working well and what should be improved. In collaboration with the Muskie School for Public Service, we were asked to facilitate and report on a series of 14 public meetings designed to gather input. We also established a website for the benefit of the stakeholders.

Maine Infection Prevention Collaborative (2010-2011)
Made up of representatives from each of Maine’s 39 hospitals, the Maine Infection Prevention Collaborative (MIPC) seeks to prevent and control health care associated infections. We were hired to facilitate regular 5-hour meetings of the Collaborative. The MIPC makes decisions by consensus.
Maine Medical Center (2010)
The Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation at Maine Medical Center hired us to facilitate a series of focus group discussions on how prostate cancer patients receive and react to information about their prognosis. The research will be used to improve how such information is conveyed.

At beautiful Maple Hill Farm in Hallowell, we facilitated a full day conference for the members of the Maine Nutrition Network. About a hundred people attended. We helped the group decide their mission and specific areas of work for the next few years, along with how they should best be structured to achieve their goals. As follow up, we helped them write their strategic plan to be finalized at their annual meeting.

The Maine Nutrition Network is a collaborative of public and private partners that coordinates nutrition and physical activity initiatives and contributes to policies and environments that improve the health of Maine people. We were hired to facilitate the Network's annual meeting of about 100 people - in order to engage strategic stakeholders and partners in a discussion about the future of the Network. As the representative voice of optometry in Maine, the Maine Optometric Association advances the quality and availability of eye, vision, and related health care in Maine. We have been hired to facilitate a meeting among members to develop organizational priority focus areas and an action plan for the next few years.

The organization, which is dedicated to providing professional education and services for the osteopathic profession to ensure the quality of osteopathic care to the people of Maine, hired us to facilitate a full-day retreat of the Board of Directors focusing on strategic planning. Maine Quality Counts builds capabilities for patient-centered, equitable and high-quality health care in Maine. We were hired to help plan and facilitate two regional roundtable discussions among health care providers and administrators in Washington and Piscataquis Counties, on emerging models of health care. As part of this project we facilitated a simultaneous meeting in Calais and Machias, connected by an Interactive TV system. We are also preparing Complete Reports of the meetings. Affiliated with Dartmouth Medical School, the University of New England School of Osteopathic Medicine and MaineGeneral Medical Center, the Maine-Dartmouth Family Practice is a group of family practitioners serving the greater Waterville area and training resident doctors who specialize in family medicine. We were hired to help the management team develop a strategic plan to define the Practice's future. We facilitated a series of meetings over a two-year period which resulted in a written strategic plan.
Manchester Health Department (2011)
The Manchester Health Department (MHD) provides public health services to the large, culturally diverse city of Manchester, New Hampshire (pop. 110,000). We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning process to help the MHD develop strategic goals and a framework for implementation. In addition to facilitating strategic planning meetings, we conducted stakeholder interviews and employee focus groups, and prepared a written final draft of the strategic plan.

Initially administered by Medical Care Development, the Casco Bay Coalition for Youth Substance Abuse Prevention launched a program called 21 Reasons. They hired us to facilitate an important organizational meeting that, among other things, resulted in renaming the program Casco Bay Can.

This highly successful partnership of physicians with offices in Brunswick, Lewiston and Augusta hired us to help them better define roles and governance procedures.

The managers and directors of the Patient Care Services division of Mercy Hospital hired us to facilitate a two-day off-site staff retreat at which we did team building exercises, expertiential learning, and strategic planning.
Muskie School of the University of Southern Maine (2007)
We were hired by the Integrated Core Injury Prevention and Control Program of the Muskie School of the University of Southern Maine to facilitate a full-day, statewide conference on how to reduce the misuse of perscription drugs. We provided multiple facilitators for the day and also prepared a report of the conference.

This private corporation operates 20 facilities and has about 1600 employees. They hired us to work with their senior management team over a six month period to improve communications and overall productivity, and help establish their strategic direction.

We have been hired to facilitate a meeting among five island health centers: Northhaven, Vinalhaven, Islesboro, Monhegan, and Matinicus. We will be using internet video technology. We will discuss improved collaboration and sharing resources among the island health centers.

Its mission is to provide access, regardless of ability to pay, for people of the region to quality community health care services, and to promote access for all in Maine. We were hired to facilitate a retreat of board members to launch the development of PCHC’s strategic plan.
Portland Public Health (2008)
The Public Health Division of the City of Portland hired us to help them develop a strategic plan. We interviewed key stakeholders and facilitated a series of management meetings that resulted in a prioritized list of activities to be done over the next three years. The plan contains specific performance measures with data presented graphically.

The Quality Review Committee is a state-chartered group with responsibilities to review the quality of work that Elder Independence of Maine delivers to about 3,000 consumers of home-based care services throughout Maine. They hired us to facilitate a strategic planning session to re-consider their overall mission and scope of work.

The Quality Review Council is established by state law to review homecare services provided by Elder Independence of Maine. The Daniel Hanley Center for Health Leadership was asked by Health Policy Partners of Maine to convene a forum that would bring together key leaders representing a wide range of interests. We were hired to facilitate a full-day discussion among educators, private employers, and environmentalists to develop strategies to reduce youth obesity in Maine.

We were hired to deliver training to staff on stress reduction. Via a number of interactive games and activities, we discussed the causes of stress, reactions to stress (healthy and unhealthy) and developed a list of strategies to reduce stress.

Founded in 1978, with campuses in Portland and Biddeford, the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine trains students to become osteopathic physicians. The Dean of the College convened a conclave among all the faculty to discuss the future of the College. We were hired to facilitate and provide a complete report of the conclave. In addition to discussing strategic issues we also did some team building.

VNA Home Health Care is a major provider of home health and hospice care affiliated with Mercy Hospital and serving families throughout Cumberland and northern York Counties since 1921. Volunteers of America Northern New England hosted a statewide conference to confront the problem of misuses of prescription drugs. Participants from the medical, pharmacology, law enforcement, substance abuse treatment & prevention, and mental health fields discussed how medicine moves from health to hazard, what can be done to intervene in the diversion process and what some communities across Maine are doing to tackle this growing concern. We were hired to facilitate the conference as well as follow-up meetings with the leaders to define next steps.

The Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust (BTLT) preserves acreage of ecological, agricultural and aesthetic importance in the neighboring towns of Brunswick and Topsham. BTLT hired us to facilitate a full day board retreat focused on the future of Crystal Spring Farm, a working farm owned by BTLT that raises vegetables and livestock, maintains recreational trails, and hosts a farmers' market on 320 acres. Situated on opposite ends of Damariscotta Lake, the boards of directors of these camps engaged in seven months of discussions, which initially began as explorations on how to collaborate, but which resulted in a complete merger of the two organizations. Elder Independence of Maine (EIM) is Maine's Home Care Coordination Agency. A division of SeniorsPlus, EIM connects people throughout the state of Maine with home care services. We were hired to conduct a retreat for senior management to improve meeting efficiencies and role definition.
Elder Issues Partnership (2004-2012)
A large coalition of organizations that serve elderly in various ways banded together in a coalition and retained us to facilitate their monthly meetings which always consisted of exchanging information about state and federal policy initiatives and often included outside speakers on topics of interest. In addition, we provided complete secretariat services which included meeting write up and distribution, handling all correspondence, managing a website and list serve on behalf of the group, and arranging meeting facilities. The group tried to influence state policy to better serve elderly people. More recently, we were hired to facilitate a strategic planning meeting for the coalition.

The Elder Justice Partners is a partnership of 17 state government and non-profit agencies working to protect Maine seniors. Elder Justice Partners convened a day-long summit of leaders working in the area of elder abuse to highlight the current state of elder abuse outreach and prosecution and plan for the future of elder abuse work in Maine. Environment Northeast (ENE) develops innovative policies to combat global warming and promote clean energy and clean air solutions in New England and Eastern Canada. We have been hired in an ongoing capacity as a management consultant to help facilitate implementation of ENE's strategic goals developed at a retreat in Fall 2011.

Enterprise Maine, now called the Growth Council of Oxford Hills, hired us to work on several projects over the course of a whole year. We helped the Lake Region Development Council establish a strategic plan and organizational structure to achieve it. We helped the Naples Downtown Group get organized to serve as an advocate for the downtown. We helped the Enterprise Maine board develop a new strategic plan. We helped to build institutional capacity among the Oxford Hills Business Development Network and the Lakes Region Business Development Network. We helped to organize the region's modular building companies into a Building Trades Workforce Collaborative designed to result in benefits for the partner companies and for the entire region. And we facilitated a public forum in Downtown Norway to gather public input on how to spend Community Development Block Grant funds.

The Family Planning Association of Maine raises awareness of family planning issues and provides health care services to Mainers, especially people with limited or no income and those who are uninsured. GrowSmart Maine finds common ground solutions for growing Maine’s economy and preserving our quality of place. In 2006, GrowSmart Maine brought The Brookings Institution here to develop Charting Maine’s Future, a report that created a vision for Maine and an Action Plan to achieve that vision. Now, in 2012, GrowSmart Maine is assessing the impact of Charting Maine's Future and updating the Action Plan. We were hired to manage this assessment and update project, including conducting research and interviews with dozens of Maine's influential leaders, facilitating meetings to develop new recommendations, drafting text for the new report, and coordinating graphic design and printing for the report. We partnered with Peter Weed and Teague Morris for this project.
GrowSmart Maine (2013)
GrowSmart Maine is a nonprofit working to find common ground solutions for growing Maine’s economy and preserving our quality of place. GrowSmart Maine recently launched a new community planning project called "ReEnvisioning the Highway Strip" which proposes to research and present current ideas and examples for retrofitting highway strips. We were hired to facilitate a convening of planners and others working on commercial strip projects to share thoughts and lessons learned.

Van Buren is a small community on the St. John River in Northern Maine with a downtown that has been in decline over the past 40 years. Now designated a Main Street Maine downtown, community leaders are taking steps to reverse the trend. We have been hired by the Maine Downtown Center to help with strategic planning, downtown revitalization training, and related activities.

In Skowhegan, we interviewed all members of the board, and facilitated a full-day board retreat to work on organizational development issues. In Livermore Falls, we facilitated a full-day retreat that will result in a strategic plan.
Maine Downtown Center (2009-Fall)
We participated in resource teams assembled by the Maine Downtown Center to visit and advise two Maine Street Communities, Sanford and Rockland. Other team members included experts in historic preservation, economic development, and promotions. Our role on the team was to focus on organizational development issues. Each visit consisted of three days on-site and the preparation of a written report. In addition, Craig provided training to the Organizational Committee of Rockland Main Street.

Other team members will include experts on topics such as historic preservation, economic development, and promotions. Our role on the team was to focus on organizational development issues. The Maine Farmers' Market Convention hired us to provide a training session on conflict prevention, management, and resolution. The Maine Farmers' Market Convention is an annual event organized and presented by the Downeast Business Alliance. The 2011 convention was held in January in Belfast, Maine.

The Maine Farmers' Market Convention is an annual event organized and presented by the Downeast Business Alliance. The 2013 convention was held at Point Lookout in beautiful Northport, Maine.

The Maine Global Warming Action Coalition is administered by the Natural Resources Council of Maine and consists of twenty nonprofit organizations concerned with global warming. They came together to discuss a common agenda and how best to work with each other. In addition to facilitating a meeting, we also helped with an advance survey of all coalition members and we prepared a summary report.
Maine Grain Alliance (2010)
The Maine Grain Alliance is a nonprofit organization working to preserve and promote grain traditions. The Maine Grain Alliance oversees The KNEADING Conference, held annually in Skowhegan, which brings together farmers, bakers, and wood-fired oven enthusiasts. Building on our previous work with the steering committee of The KNEADING Conference, we were hired to help the Maine Grain Alliance with a series of strategic planning meetings. As a result of this work, we prepared a draft strategic plan.

The Maine Health Access Foundation convened 200 people at the Augusta Civic Center to discuss integration of Maine's mental, behavioral, and physical health systems. We provided several facilitators to manage the break-out sessions.

The Maine Housing and Building Materials Exchange benefits low income families and the environment by providing new and reusable building materials at an affordable price. They hired us to facilitate two half-day meetings of the board of directors which resulted in a written strategic plan.

Each year, volunteers and professionals moderate panel discussions at the Farmer to Farmer Conference put on by MOFGA. We were hired to provide training for volunteer moderators. Maine Quality Counts builds capabilities for patient-centered, equitable and high-quality health care in Maine. We were hired to help plan and facilitate two regional roundtable discussions among health care providers and administrators in Washington and Piscataquis Counties, on emerging models of health care. As part of this project we facilitated a simultaneous meeting in Calais and Machias, connected by an Interactive TV system. We are also preparing Complete Reports of the meetings. The Maine School Garden Network (MSGN) is a group of committed individuals who promote and support educational gardens for youth and encourage school programs that teach healthy eating and environmental stewardship. We were hired to help plan and facilitate a full-day meeting, comprised of a broad stakeholder input discussion in the morning followed by a MSGN Advisory Board meeting in the afternoon where board members reflected on input received and made decisions about MSGN’s future. Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society (2008)
The Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society explores, develops and promotes agricultural systems and practices that allow Maine farmers to retain a greater share of consumer expenditures for farm products. We facilitated a half-day board retreat focused on strategic planning. In advance of the retreat, we interviewed each board member and prepared a report of the findings which informed the discussion around the future direction of the organization. Six months after the planning retreat, we facilitated a follow-up board retreat.

Rockingham Nutrition and Meals on Wheels Program, Inc. provides nutritious meals and beneficial support services to older and disabled residents of Rockingham County, New Hampshire. Initially administered by Medical Care Development, the Casco Bay Coalition for Youth Substance Abuse Prevention launched a program called 21 Reasons. They hired us to facilitate an important organizational meeting that, among other things, resulted in renaming the program Casco Bay Can.

Northern Forest Canoe Trail (2010)
The Northern Forest Canoe Trail is a 700-mile wilderness waterway in New York, Vermont, Quebec, New Hampshire and Maine. We were hired to work with businesses along the Maine section of the trail to design and develop packages for tourists, including specific itineraries. This project is supported by a federal Rural Business Enterprise Grant (RBEG) to promote economic development in the Northern Forest.

The Northern Forest Center convened a two-day conference to advance recommendations of the sustainable economy initiative. One hundred people from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York convened to develop consensus on top-priority activities to advance the Northern Forest economy in a sustainable manner. When Lauri toy manufacturing company closed its doors in Avon, Maine, it left behind a terrific facility which local community leaders are now rallying around. A non-profit corporation was formed to use the facility in innovative ways to prepare workers for new jobs in growing industries and to bring education, services, and culture to an area that has been previously underserved. CEI, in partnership with the Western Maine Sustainable Development Collaborative, hired us to help with strategic planning and organizational development.

At the retreat we helped the organization develop a mission statement that is simple, understandable and compels enthusiasm.

Restorative Justice is a method that addresses harm caused by crime and wrongdoing by focusing not only on punishing the offender, but also on the victim that was harmed, the community that was impacted, and the ways in which the offender can make things right. The Restorative Justice Institute of Maine hired Craig to plan and facilitate a two-day conference called "Restorative Justice Think Tank: Realizing our Vision of a Restorative State".

The Restorative Practitioner Training Institute is a new program of the Restorative Justice Institute of Maine and Youth MOVE Maine. Over 9 months, selected participants will attend a series of gatherings to build skills and support the development of restorative practices in Maine’s communities. We were hired to facilitate a board retreat to develop a new strategic plan for the Sacopee Valley Health Center, located in Porter, Maine, which has been delivering comprehensive health care services to the Sacopee Valley since 1976. In preparation for the retreat, we tabulated and analyzed the results of a community-wide survey conducted by the Health Center. We also prepared a report of the board retreat.

We were hired to deliver training to staff on stress reduction. Via a number of interactive games and activities, we discussed the causes of stress, reactions to stress (healthy and unhealthy) and developed a list of strategies to reduce stress.

“Speak Out!” was a panel discussion and forum held in Brunswick, Maine, to address critical issues facing women in the 2012 election and to encourage women to consider political and economic leadership roles. In a volunteer capacity, we worked with the student-led planning committee and helped moderate the forum.

Volunteers of America Northern New England hosted a statewide conference to confront the problem of misuses of prescription drugs. Participants from the medical, pharmacology, law enforcement, substance abuse treatment & prevention, and mental health fields discussed how medicine moves from health to hazard, what can be done to intervene in the diversion process and what some communities across Maine are doing to tackle this growing concern. Craig was asked to facilitate a plenary session of "Creating Better Neighborhoods for the Future", this year's national conference of the Cohousing Association of the United States. The group came to some conclusions about the relevancy of cohousing in light of today's environmental, economic, and social concerns.

Elder Issues Partnership (2004-2012)
A large coalition of organizations that serve elderly in various ways banded together in a coalition and retained us to facilitate their monthly meetings which always consisted of exchanging information about state and federal policy initiatives and often included outside speakers on topics of interest. In addition, we provided complete secretariat services which included meeting write up and distribution, handling all correspondence, managing a website and list serve on behalf of the group, and arranging meeting facilities. The group tried to influence state policy to better serve elderly people. More recently, we were hired to facilitate a strategic planning meeting for the coalition.

The Elder Justice Partners is a partnership of 17 state government and non-profit agencies working to protect Maine seniors. The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) is the oldest and largest state organic organization in the country. Each year, volunteers and professionals moderate panel discussions at the Farmer to Farmer Conference put on by MOFGA. We were hired to provide training for volunteer moderators. The Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust (BTLT) preserves acreage of ecological, agricultural and aesthetic importance in the neighboring towns of Brunswick and Topsham. BTLT hired us to facilitate a full day board retreat focused on the future of Crystal Spring Farm, a working farm owned by BTLT that raises vegetables and livestock, maintains recreational trails, and hosts a farmers' market on 320 acres. We also prepared a full report of the meeting.

The Land Use Planning Commission (LUPC, formerly the Land Use Regulation Commission, or LURC) has jurisdiction over Maine’s unorganized territories, an area of 10.4 million acres - roughly half the size of the state. LUPC has hired us to conduct three meetings of recreational lodging stakeholders to provide input on new ways that recreational lodging might be regulated in the unorganized territories. The Northern Forest Canoe Trail is a 700-mile wilderness waterway in New York, Vermont, Quebec, New Hampshire and Maine. We were hired to work with businesses along the Maine section of the trail to design and develop packages for tourists, including specific itineraries. This project is supported by a federal Rural Business Enterprise Grant (RBEG) to promote economic development in the Northern Forest.

We facilitated the meeting and wrote the meeting report; a documentation of their new agreements. The Kieve team-building staff also helped them build trust and improve communication skills, making full use of Kieve's "outdoor classrooms."

The town of Winslow, Maine has aging public schools and needed to make some hard decisions about which to close and how to consolidate. The School Committee convened a large public forum to present four potential options and provide townspeople a chance to ask questions and make comments. Hired by School Union 52 (Winslow, China, Vassalboro), we facilitated the discussion, administered a straw poll during the meeting, and wrote a report which included a summmary of all the questions and comments.

Direct Health Care Worker Registry (2006)
In response to a recent legislative mandate, a coalition of organizations, including the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, the Maine Center for Economic Policy, the Muskie School of USM, and the DHHS Office of Elder Services, hired us to facilitate dialogue among health care providers, workers, and consumers. Our objective was to find common ground among these interests and develop consensus recommendations on the nature of a statewide registry of direct care workers.

The Land Use Planning Commission (LUPC, formerly the Land Use Regulation Commission, or LURC) has jurisdiction over Maine’s unorganized territories, an area of 10.4 million acres - roughly half the size of the state. LUPC has hired us to conduct three meetings of recreational lodging stakeholders to provide input on new ways that recreational lodging might be regulated in the unorganized territories. In addition to planning and facilitating the meetings, we will also prepare complete reports.
Leominster High School (2005)
Senior administrative staff of this 1800-student High School in Massachusetts came for a weekend retreat to Camp Kieve on the shores of Damariscotta Lake. They are organizing into five distinct "small schools" and thus needed to work out many details about how the five headmasters will work collaboratively and independently. We facilitated the meeting and wrote the meeting report; a documentation of their new agreements. The Kieve team-building staff also helped them build trust and improve communication skills, making full use of Kieve's "outdoor classrooms."

At beautiful Maple Hill Farm in Hallowell, we facilitated a full day conference for the members of the Maine Nutrition Network. About a hundred people attended. Maine Nutrition Network (2011)
The Maine Nutrition Network is a collaborative of public and private partners that coordinates nutrition and physical activity initiatives and contributes to policies and environments that improve the health of Maine people. We were hired to facilitate the Network's annual meeting of about 100 people - in order to engage strategic stakeholders and partners in a discussion about the future of the Network. To make sure that all views were heard in a respectful, focused manner, the State Planning Office hired us to moderate a formal public hearing on a proposed rule under Maine's Informed Growth Act.
Maine State Planning Office (2007-Summer & Fall)
The State Planning Office (SPO) reviews the comprehensive land use plans of Maine municipalities and was on the verge of proposing a new way for it to be done. Before changes were actually made, SPO wanted to hear from stakeholders around the state. They hired us to facilitate a series of meetings and prepare a report of findings. They also hired us to facilitate a public hearing on proposed rule changes. We established a website specifically designed to inform stakeholders about the rule-changing process and solicit their comments.

The Land Use Team of the State Planning Office hired us for a three-hour session focused on personality type assessment and how the team can work together most effectively.

Maine Statewide Independent Living Council (2010)
The federally-mandated Maine Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) is responsible for developing, monitoring, and evaluating the State Plan for Independent Living and communicating with the State Rehabilitation Council. As part of our apprenticeship program, we facilitated a meeting among members of the SILC to develop a three-year communications plan. Leigh Tillman served as lead facilitator.

The Manchester Health Department (MHD) provides public health services to the large, culturally diverse city of Manchester, New Hampshire (pop. 110,000). We were hired to facilitate a strategic planning process to help the MHD develop strategic goals and a framework for implementation. In addition to facilitating strategic planning meetings, we conducted stakeholder interviews and employee focus groups, and prepared a written final draft of the strategic plan.

We were hired by the Integrated Core Injury Prevention and Control Program of the Muskie School of the University of Southern Maine to facilitate a full-day, statewide conference on how to reduce the misuse of perscription drugs. We provided multiple facilitators for the day and also prepared a report of the conference.
Natural Resource-based Industries Steering Committee (2004)
The Natural Resource-based Industries Steering Committee, appointed by Governor Baldacci, hired us to staff a Working Group of state agency managers and develop a methodology for continued assessment of Maine's natural resource-based industries. We prepared an indicators report designed to inform policy makers about the state of these industries and where they might be headed. The report was published December 9th,2004.

Office of Elder Services (2011)
The Office of Elder Services (OES) of the state of Maine Department of Health and Human Services promotes programs and services for older adults, their families and for people with disabilities. OES hired us to facilitate a full day meeting between OES staff and the leadership of Maine’s five Area Agencies on Aging. The group discussed ways to work most effectively together and identified shared goals for the future. In addition to facilitating the meeting we prepared a complete report.

The Pentucket Regional School District, serving the towns of Groveland, Merrimac and West Newbury, Massachusetts, hired us to facilitate a four-hour meeting of the school committee where we developed annual priorities and operating guidelines. In addition, they hired us to work with the administrative team consisting of the superintendent and six principals, to refine roles and responsibilities.
Portland Area Comprehensive Transportation System (PACTS) (2012)
PACTS works to improve the coordination of transportation planning and investment decisions by state, municipal and public transportation organizations in the Portland, Maine region (including 18 towns from Biddeford to Brunswick). We were hired to facilitate a meeting of the PACTS Policy Committee to help establish consensus on future size and responsibilities of committees and on future sub-regional and elected official representation.

PACTS works to improve the coordination of transportation planning and investment decisions by state, municipal and public transportation organizations in the Portland, Maine region. We were hired to facilitate a meeting among four PACTS Committees (Policy, Executive, Planning and Transit), to start the process of preparing the 2014 update to the "Destination Tomorrow" regional transportation plan. We also provided a complete report of the meeting.

The Quality Review Committee is a state-chartered group with responsibilities to review the quality of work that Elder Independence of Maine delivers to about 3,000 consumers of home-based care services throughout Maine. They hired us to facilitate a strategic planning session to re-consider their overall mission and scope of work.
Quality Review Council (2005-2012)
The Quality Review Council is established by state law to review homecare services provided by Elder Independence of Maine. The Council reviews quality reports and also works on short-term, high priority projects to improve home care. We were retained to facilitate all regular meetings of the Council.
Regional School Unit 18 – Messalonskee School District (2010)
Faced with projected multi-year budget constraints, this central Maine school district hired us to facilitate a large public input meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to explain the situation, and gather public comment on potential closures and/or reorganization of buildings and schools.
Regional School Unit 24 (2009)
The brand-new school board for RSU 24 hired us to facilitate a kick-off retreat. Given the recent consolidation of three school districts (Ellsworth; School Union 92, which includes Lamoine, Hancock, Mariaville, Eastbrook, and Waltham; and School Union 96, which includes Franklin, Gouldsboro, Sorrento, Steuben, Sullivan and Winter Harbor) into one, the board wanted to get off on the right foot. We discussed everything from how board members interact with each other to initial goals for the new district. After the meeting, we prepared a report.

School Union 52 (2005)
The town of Winslow, Maine has aging public schools and needed to make some hard decisions about which to close and how to consolidate. The School Committee convened a large public forum to present four potential options and provide townspeople a chance to ask questions and make comments. Hired by School Union 52 (Winslow, China, Vassalboro), we facilitated the discussion, administered a straw poll during the meeting, and wrote a report which included a summmary of all the questions and comments.

Topsham Development, Inc. (2008)
The directors of both the Brunswick Economic Development Corporation and Topsham Development, Inc. convened a workshop on design and impact issues, opportunities, and challenges presented by the potential development of a midcoast regional business park. Through the workshop, the two organizations solicited public comments and ideas regarding how design standards might be used to manage appearance, community and environmental impacts, and even what sorts of business tenants should be targeted to align with such standards. We were hired to facilitate the workshop and prepare a report.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service – Maine Field Office (2011)
The Maine Field Office of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hired us to facilitate a series of three open house sessions on lynx trapping in Presque Isle, Orono, and Gorham, Maine, for members of the public to learn about the permit process, exchange information on techniques to avoid incidental trapping of lynx, and provide feedback on assessments and plans. The City of Westbrook, ME, hired us to facilitate a community-wide visioning process. As a result of a series of fourteen meetings and a full day community visioning meeting, we drafted a vision statement to serve as the basis of Westbrook's updated comprehensive plan. The Transportation Program of the York County Community Action Corporation promotes self-sufficiency by providing York County residents with a means to get to work and/or services and resources which otherwise would not be accessible. We facilitated the Annual Transportation Gathering, a half-day retreat where employees focused on improving how they work together as a team and serve their customers.

Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust (2011 – Fall)
The Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust (BTLT) preserves acreage of ecological, agricultural and aesthetic importance in the neighboring towns of Brunswick and Topsham. BTLT hired us to facilitate a full day board retreat focused on the future of Crystal Spring Farm, a working farm owned by BTLT that raises vegetables and livestock, maintains recreational trails, and hosts a farmers' market on 320 acres. We also prepared a full report of the meeting.
Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust (2011 – Spring)
Since 1985, the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust has preserved more than 1,100 acres in the neighboring towns of Brunswick and Topsham in an effort to protect properties with true ecological, agricultural and aesthetic importance. With support from the Maine Department of Agriculture, we were hired to facilitate an outreach meeting among farmers and neighbors.

The Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust teamed up with the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust on a long term project to help improve sustainability of local agriculture in the Merrymeeting Bay Region. The Gulf of Maine Research Institute convened ground fishermen from Cape Cod to the coastal Maine to discuss new, innovative ways to manage the fishery. With the hope of achieving consensus on recommendations to the New England Fisheries Management Council, we were hired to facilitate the discussions and prepare a report of conclusions.

The Maine Department of Agriculture hired us to facilitate two meetings, one in Topsham and one in Farmington, to gather input from farmers, land owners, land trusts, and municipal officials, on the pros and cons of mapping farms on regional maps. The Maine Farmers' Market Convention hired us to provide a training session on conflict prevention, management, and resolution. The Maine Farmers' Market Convention is an annual event organized and presented by the Downeast Business Alliance. The 2011 convention was held in January in Belfast, Maine.

The Maine Farmers' Market Convention hired Craig to present a keynote talk on The Wisdom of Group Decisions. For the third year in a row Craig also provided a training session; this year's topic was strategic planning. The Maine Farmers' Market Convention is an annual event organized and presented by the Downeast Business Alliance. The 2013 convention was held at Point Lookout in beautiful Northport, Maine.

The Maine Grain Alliance is a nonprofit organization working to preserve and promote grain traditions. The Maine Grain Alliance oversees The KNEADING Conference, held annually in Skowhegan, which brings together farmers, bakers, and wood-fired oven enthusiasts. Building on our previous work with the steering committee of The KNEADING Conference, we were hired to help the Maine Grain Alliance with a series of strategic planning meetings. As a result of this work, we prepared a draft strategic plan.

At beautiful Maple Hill Farm in Hallowell, we facilitated a full day conference for the members of the Maine Nutrition Network. About a hundred people attended. We helped the group decide their mission and specific areas of work for the next few years, along with how they should best be structured to achieve their goals. As follow up, we helped them write their strategic plan to be finalized at their annual meeting.

Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (2008)
The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) hired us to facilitate a discussion among the MOFGA board of directors and the board of directors of MOFGA Certification Services, LLC, the wholly-owned subsidiary of MOFGA that certifies organic farmers on behalf of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) is the oldest and largest state organic organization in the country. Each year, volunteers and professionals moderate panel discussions at the Farmer to Farmer Conference put on by MOFGA. We were hired to provide training for volunteer moderators. Several Good Group Decisions Associates then joined other volunteers in facilitating panel discussions at the 2010 conference. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.

We have been hired to help plan the day and help facilitate audience participation.
Maine School Garden Network (2012)
The Maine School Garden Network (MSGN) is a group of committed individuals who promote and support educational gardens for youth and encourage school programs that teach healthy eating and environmental stewardship. We were hired to help plan and facilitate a full-day meeting, comprised of a broad stakeholder input discussion in the morning followed by a MSGN Advisory Board meeting in the afternoon where board members reflected on input received and made decisions about MSGN’s future. We also prepared complete reports of both meetings. Leigh Tillman assisted with this project.
Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society (2008)
The Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society explores, develops and promotes agricultural systems and practices that allow Maine farmers to retain a greater share of consumer expenditures for farm products. We facilitated a half-day board retreat focused on strategic planning. In advance of the retreat, we interviewed each board member and prepared a report of the findings which informed the discussion around the future direction of the organization. Six months after the planning retreat, we facilitated a follow-up board retreat.
Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society (2012-2013)
The Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society (MESAS) explores, develops and promotes agricultural systems and practices that allow Maine farmers to retain a greater share of consumer expenditures for farm products. As part of the MESAS "More Maine Meat" project, we were hired to facilitate a series of meetings among farmers, processors, distributors, government agencies, researchers, agricultural organizations, and consumers to identify key constraints and opportunities in Maine's sustainable meat industry.

The Spannocchia Foundation seeks to encourage global dialogue about sustaining cultural landscapes for future generations through the example of the Tenuta di Spannocchia, a centuries-old agricultural estate located about 12 miles southwest of Siena in central Tuscany, Italy. We were hired to facilitate a three-day strategic planning board retreat at the Castello di Spannocchia, located on the Tenuta.

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension hired us to plan and facilitate two meetings to help Cooperative Extension organize their SNAP-Ed program: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance ProgramEducation, which helps low-income individuals make healthy food choices.
