A lot goes into really good meeting facilitation. And good meeting facilitators are doing several things at once! Yet in this video I break it down to four essential functions: provide structure, encourage participation, reflect the group, and push the group forward.
After years of studying and practicing meeting facilitation I asked myself, “When I am at my very best as a meeting facilitator, what am I doing?” Here is the answer.
Of course this is a short answer. If you would like to add thoughts or ask questions, please do so in the space below.
And if you would like to learn more about meeting facilitation please see the Good Group Tips that I have written specifically about Group Technique.
Hi Sue,
Thanks for writing.
Yes, that’s the perfect question.
And it’s not a simple answer.
On this website there’s a video about copying Face to Face meeting techniques into Virtual settings: https://northstarfacilitators.com/2020/11/move-out-of-the-boxes-in-virtual-meetings/#
I believe that although techniques are different in a virtual environment, the attitudes and principles are the same and are perfectly transferable.
How would you tweek these suggestions for ONLINE meetings?
Thank you, Craig. I appreciate your professional generosity in making your tips and videos available. I needed to brush up on my facilitation tactics, and you are a valuable resource.
Good fortune to you in 2015.
